darren55 East Midland Trains: ... is my chance to get something of my chest, I travel on the laughably poor 7.35 East Midlands train from Sheffield to Manchester and catch the returning one at 4.42. Thats the bald facts for this shocking train service, now Sheffield and Manchester are if facts don t lie two of the biggest cities in England and many people might want to travel between the two of them? Yet the service offered by East Midlands on t...

simonh7 Young Persons Railcard
... anyone between the ages of 16 and 25, or those above 25 in full - time education, who are inclined to regularly use trains, especially for cross-country journeys, this railcard is a God-send! The card costs £26, which can be recovered in savings in a single journey if long and expensive enough, as it knocks a third off all rail fares. Of course, there are exceptions, but a third off is actually a hell of a lot. I actually got my railcard for free when I signed up to a Natwest student account, so I literally had nothing to lose and have saved hundreds of pounds in the process. ... previous two reviews on Translink are a lot older than mine so I thought I d provide a more up-to-date review for people considering travelling by train. Translink have a monopoly in Northern Ireland ie they have no competitors, this enables them to price their fares and services at whatever level suits them because there is nobody to undercut them. Fares have continued to rise and rise in recent years, and while I understand this is due to fuel costs, Translink have done little to insulate the consumer from the substantial hikes. Perhaps what annoys me the most is the minimum fare, even if you only want to get on for one stop and it s only say 2 minutes up the line...

... have to be feeling seriously under pressure to book another form of transport between Dover and Calais. Now, I am not particularly flush with cash, but there are so many advantage to using the eurotunnel... Firstly, you don t need to worry about the weather. Dover to Calais may not take long on a ferry, but if you are feeling seasick, it may feel like an eternity. Or it may simply take an eternity due to strike action (vive la France). Even if the weather is calm and industrial relations fine, the Eurotunnel is your quickest and smoothest option. If you have booked with a bank or credit card their clever number plate recognition system works out who you are (that is c...
