First ScotRail:
... Scot Rail was taken over by First travel, I, aswell as many others were hoping this would mean an end to service disruptions, cramped train carriages and overall a better service. I have been using First Scot Rail trains for well over 5 years now and I have travelled to different parts of Scotland using them. I have been somewhat satisfied with the service provided. One favourite line of the company seems to ... Read the full review: Scot Rail Fail. by crazyfear |

Trans-Siberian Railway (Russia) ... finally got round to carrying out my trip of a lifetime in July this year. Instead of writing about the journey in general, I will stick to tips in the hope this will be useful to travellers doing the same route. I travelled from Moscow to Beijing, stopping off at Irkutsk and Ulaan Bataar. 1) Take a Nalgene bottle. Nalgenes can carry boiling water, so I used mine for water, for hot drinks, and also as a shower (sterilising between uses of course). There was no hot water in the bathroom I used, so I mixed water from the hot water samovar with the cold water in the tap and hey presto, instant shower. 2) Take a head torch or reading light. Our first train did not have ... Read the full review: Trip of A Lifetime by cezzybunny |

Eurostar ... Eurostar offer high speed rail service between London, Paris, Brussels and Lille connecting to the onward rail networks throughout Europe. It is absolutely fantastic that you can do this without taking a plane and often works out just as cheap as flying and in terms of saving money it is quite good too. This service is enabled due to the magnificent construction of the Channel tunnel which is the longest tunnel in the world under the sea. There are two tunnels that take trains in each direction with a central service tunnel which can be used in an emergency such as a train break down or fire as has happened in recent years. The Eurostar service is also shared... Read the full review: Super fast alternative leisurely travel. by garymarsh6 |

Eurostar ... took a family trip to the south of France via Paris in August 2009. I ve been convinced high speed train travel is the future for some time, but this is the first time we experienced the reality - did it live up to our high expectations? We caught the train from Ashford, which was painless - far less hassle than a plane. The trip itself was fine, except we had backwards seats (boo), which makes me a bit headachey. The train is very quiet and smooth, however. We arrived in Paris wide eyed... and that s when the problems started. We had to queue at Gare du Nord for an hour to exhange our Visite Paris voucher for Paris travelcards... and when we got to the front, th...
