Rented a van from Sixt. They arranged for it through one of their partner firms and everything seemed fine. Filled all the details in etc. Went to collect the van only to be told that the partner firms insurance wouldn't cover me and that Sixt should never have made the booking as they were aware. Walked an hour home again without the van to call customer service and after a 10minute wait I got through to an advisor.
The advisor said that yes they were aware they local branch couldn't insure me and they shouldn't have made the booking. They claimed they couldn't put me on their insurance in order for me to rent the van. I was told there were no managers to speak to and I'd have to phone back a few days later. I did that and was still refused to speak to a manager because the advisor said they could handle it. Waited on a call back to resolve the issue, it never came.
TL;dr Booked a van, wasn't insured and couldn't collect it. Left without a van and no time to book elsewhere. Sixt customer service was useless
Having booked car rental through carrentals.com I didn't know exactly what company I would be booked with until I had paid the final amount. I had previously rented a car through this site and they had booked me with a brilliant rental company so I trusted their judgement completely. After my recent experience I will think again.
I can honestly say I've never received such shoddy and unprofessional service from any company before.
I arrived at Belfast International Airport and phoned the company to let them know I had arrived (as directed to do on the rental instructions). My flight arrived in early so I was phoning 15 minutes before my rental was due to be picked up. The person arrived at the office on time but we didn't leave until about 7.30-7.45 due to issues with the pick up which led to us being late for our hotel reservations.
Upon arrival I was told the company would have to take £1200 from my credit card as a holding deposit in case of any damages. My bank doesn't allow large amounts to be withdrawn without pre-authorised permission - which I would have got if I had known in advance I would have had to do this....I then offered to pay it on debit and was told the only way to do this was to pay an extra fee to reduce the excess. I ended up having to pay another £30 (on top of the already extra £32 for being under 25....by a month!) just for the pleasure of using my debit card.
In retrospect the above was a god-send as I didn't know how much of a circus this company was. We were handed the keys for the car and told to sign a form saying we agreed with the condition the car was in...I insisted I wanted to check the car over before signing anything but this was refused (in reflection I should have run a mile!). We were told the car was parked round the side of the building but when we went round it wasn't in the place we were told to look. After going in twice to double check I was looking in the right place I eventually found it (by ignoring the wrong instructions given) and it was parked in what looked like a car dump yard in the middle of 6 other cars with a Mercedes blocking it in and another car blocking the other side. I stated it was impossible to get the car out of the "space" and was told by the sales assistant it was easily accessible. I refused and asked her to move some of the surrounding cars. She moved two of the cars and then told me to reverse our car out. Our car was still jammed tightly against a wall (approx. 10 cm from it) and had a car close in front and at the other side. I raised concern but did as instructed and carefully edged backwards. I stopped as I heard a noise and switched off the engine as I was concerned I might have damaged the car and I asked the assistant to reverse the car as I didn't want to be responsible for damages.
When we had first arrived at the car, my friend and I carefully checked the 3 sides of the car we had access to to check the previous damages were marked correctly (we were unable to access the side closest to the wall as it was parked so closely to the wall. We noticed there was at least one significant missed damaged area. The rear number plate was loose and hanging off at one side. I asked the assistant to mark this on the list and she marked it on my copy but not hers. I explained I wanted her to mark it on her copy too so we weren't accused of causing that when we returned the car. She said she didn't need to do that. I pointed out that in that case my sheet was invalid as I could technically add anything I wanted and it would be best for their company if they signed both of the sheets so people didn't try and scam them.
When we reviewed the final side of the car once it had been fully reversed we noticed a slight scrape on the left wing mirror (the one that had been closest to the wall). The assistant insisted this was new damage and I had caused it. I was concerned as I knew I had heard a sound and could quite easily have caused this but raised concern that the car was parked in a bad place and it was impossible to move it without damaging it. The assistant's tone was accusing, abrupt and defensive.
After much discussion she phoned her manager and said that "there were two customers here who had damaged a and we're refusing to pay for it". She gave wrong information and changed the story to absolve her of responsibility. She told the manager she had offered to reverse the car from the outset of the keys being handed over....this had never happened. When we questioned her on this she was rude, defensive and completely lied to us and her manager.
Right from the outset of our arrival she seemed uninterested, unprofessional and wasn't even in the sixt uniform.
The result is they have taken the full amount for the excess and we will only get some of it returned when the vehicle goes to get "fixed". Financially this is not a problem as I was sensible enough to take a separate insurance policy out with another company before renting the car. However, I wanted to write this review to show my disgust in the lack of good public relations in the company and highlight their lack of professionalism so that in future others don't get scammed in the same way we were.
Result: NEVER rent a car from Sixt.
In April I hired a box van from SIXT to move my son and all his possessions back home from University. I had looked up van hire on the internet and the SIXT website was easy to understand and more importantly gave price detail. The price for the whole weekend hire was very competitive especially when compared with the other major hire companies. Dealing with SIXT could not have been easier - the staff both on the phone and in the office were friendly and helpful. I made the booking over the phone as I had some questions but I still got the on-line price! The van was clean and in good condition and drove easily. Finally I was able to drop the van off on the Sunday evening and leave the keys in a secure safe. In all it was a very easy and straightforward process and I would recommend SIXT to anyone needing van hire.
As a business user, I have found Sixt to be an excellent car rental Company. My preference is to reserve via phone and I have found Sixt Customer services to be friendly, professional and supportive. All home deliveries through a local Sixt agent have been prompt and as I generally hire a car for European mainland travel, all documentation, insurance and associated needs have been taken care of efficiently. The option to download an invoice after return of vehicle is a refreshing change. Furthermore, on a recent minor enquiry, I felt that Sixt Customer Services went "that extra mile" to support me. I would recommend you consider Sixt.
I rented a car from Sixt after booking this wehn i booked my flight to Manchester. the information sent was good and i was therfore able to find theri offices fairly easily. the staff were helpful and freindly adn assisted me to my vehicle.the car itself was new, clean and it was very helpful that it had a full tank of petrol. The process of returning the vehicle was very easy as teh drop of key box was easy to find.
Three years ago we sold our car and decided to rent when ever we needed one, family visits, Christmas even trips to B&Q etc. It works out a lot cheaper over the year. We researched rental companies and Sixt met all our requirements, local, good range of cars and well priced. The bow branch was a bit shabby but the staff helpful and friendly, they know us now and make a real effort to make sure we are happy, the Sixt card really speeds things up too. The office has now had a make over and comes up to the service levels of the staff. I cant really fault them. We certainly wouldn't go any where else now.I would just say loose the Vauxhall Meriva, a weird car and over designed inside. We've asked not to have it again, also really inefficient on fuel.
I recently rented a van from Sixt in Shaftesbury. Online booking was clear and uncomplicated, reception at Shaftesbury was excellent - courteous and professional. The vehicle was clean and return was straightforward. I would rent a vehicle from Sixt in Shaftesbury again without hesitation.
I rented a panel van for a couple of days from Sixt. I wanted to provide a quick overview of the experience. The price was really competitive - better than any other locally. The booking was easy wia the Web Portal and the ability to log the full details of licence etc made the hand over very simple. The rental unit folks were efficient and ensured they had captured any vehicle defects, and described how the vehicle operated. Van was very clean both in cab and load area. Hand back was also very rapid, with helpful staff. They made sure I knew to refill the van before returning as the charge per litre was (really) high if they did it for me. It all worked well for me and I would recommend this company and use them again.
Have started using Sixt over the past year at Heathrow. Like the website for making bookings and arranging quick pick-up. Although the previous hire resulted in a GBP 75 charge for damage it was queried and a full refund made. It would help if i had been advised that my complaint had been succesfully dealt with instead of just finding the credit on my next statement. (Lesson learnt - make sure you get someone to inspect the car before you leave the premises and get a receipt - maybe difficult at Manchester Airport.) I have no other complaints and will continue to use Sixt.
I haven't used Sixt for car hire but I've rented 2 vans from their Battersea branch - once to move house (a LWB Volkswagen van) and once to move some plants and boxes (a compact Volkswagen Caddy van). Both times the vehicles have been great - new, clean, quality Volkswagen vans. Customer service is swift and to the point - you go in and then you're leaving 5 minutes later. Online booking is similarly very clear, easy and fast. The booking e-mail is well laid out and clearly explains what you need to bring with you. All in all I really can't fault any part of their service and I will not hesitate to use them the next time I need a van. They were also cheaper than everyone else I looked at and I searched through about 10 different providers online. If you care about quality of service whilst not scrimping on the quality of vehicle then seriously go to Sixt. I rate them.
I rented a car recently with SixT Cardiff, prepaid online made everything else simple. Pick up was quick and best customer service. Also when returning the car I was dropped off at my door step, wonderful!!! The car was in clean, ran smoothly without any fault, comfortable, made driving worthwhile. Am booking again with SixT, dont be bothered by the rest, rest assured SixT is the best.
I am a gold member at SIXT and therefore might get a different service than others. I have rented several cars at Manchester Airport during Q1/2011. The guys at the front desk are really kind and quick. Quicker than their German counterparts at check-in. All data is already available [drivers licence id, home address]. Even if I arrived late because of delays with my flights, they were still waiting for me after 23:00.The cars are always neat and clean and well equipped (BMW 120d).The location on the 13th floor is really poor though and complicated to access. Sometimes the cars are located in the public area which is rather big and some time is necessary to find the car.
We recently rented a car from Sixt in the Manchester airport. We had booked online and paid ahead of time which actually made it easier. Once we arrived, the gentleman there walked us through the contract and was very kind. The car was perfect and just what we wanted...easy in, easy out. I would rent from Sixt again.
My team used Sixt at Edinburgh Airport for almost a year having tried various other competitor brands and finding that we were unable to get cars when we needed them rates fluctuated wildly and the queues to get a car were just longer and longer. There was no personal touch despite being regular renters.
We then found Sixt at Edinburgh Airport. Nicola and Dave run the branch and what a breath of fresh air. Personal emails with directions, cars waiting warmed up and with the heated seats on (in the cold weather) fabulous service adding extra drivers when we needed to with minimum fuss and a really fast and friendly service.
The cars were always clean and modern and I can honestly say we never waited for more than a minute or two to pick up the car or drop it off. They didn't try and hit us with spurious damage bills and I'm sure we often got better cars than we had booked.
I can't recommend them enough and if you're going to Edinburgh - bypass the rest and go for the best.
The only minor downside is that the office is a short bus ride away (2 mins) but it's worth it compared to the soulless experience in the main car hire hall.
I recently rented a car from Sixt in Chelsea. Despite being quite late picking up the car, which caused significant logistical problems for the rental office, they were extremely polite, went out of their way to ensure I got the car I had originally ordered and generally provided exceptional service. The car was in immaculate condition, it offered great value for money and was a huge pleasure to drive. All in all, a very enjoyable experience, thank you Sixt!
