Use a Car! (Transport in Los Angeles)

Advantages: Motorways take a driver ANYWHERE! Disadvantages: frequent traffic jams
Public transportation in Los Angeles is virtually non-existent. Therefore renting a car is necessary for any sort of travel in this busy and fast moving city. Taxis are very expensive and LA is a big city. While it’s true that you can get almost anywhere in LA in 20 minutes, that fact is greatly dependent on traffic, which often clogs up the motorways (called freeways). The main times to expect traffic is 7am- 10am and 5pm- 7:30pm. This is rush hour during the weekdays, but don’t be surprised to find traffic during the weekends, especially Sunday afternoons. The large number of freeways can lead drivers in any direction they chose to go. The streets are mapped out in a very user-friendly way. The streets are straight lines that usually intersect with other straight lines. Any simple road map will lead the unfamiliar traveller wherever they desire to go. Tourist attractions are indicated on most road maps of the city and are easy to find. Unlike Europe, there are no trains to or from the main airport, LAX. Public transportation efforts have increased in recent years, with the construction of a Los Angeles underground train system, but the routes are limited and restrictive. It basically travels between western San Fernando Valley and Universal City. Buses are dirty, inconvenient and little used. Be sure to have correct change for bus fare because change is not given. The bottom line is to rent a car because it is the fastest, most convenient, and most widely used form of transportation in LA And have patience with the traffic. Summary: |
