Advantages: Quick, Easy to book, friendly staff, plugs, comfort, shop, etc

Disadvantages: it's still a train, but i can't hold that against it

Having grown up using mainly MerseyRail and Arriva trains, Virgin Trains are a very welcome change for me.

Upon boarding the train, You are greeted by cool, fresh air, rather than a stuffy rank cabin. Coaches are clearly marked with their letter, and seats with numbers to make locating your seat easy if you've pre-booked.

Another handy feature with this, is a digital display over each seat, telling you if a seat is reserved, and if so, which stations it is occupied between. This helps reduce any confusion or problems which may arise if people without pre-booked seats try to park themselves on a busy journey.

The onboard shop stocks a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, freshly ground coffee, tea, sweets, hot and cold snacks, magazines, and most things that you may want or need during your journey. Although Virgin could charge the earth for these things, as there is nowhere else you can get them, they are instead quite reasonable.

The main thing I enjoyed about my travels with Virgin Trains is that most (if not all, i didn't check) of the seats have a power point next to them for charging mobile phones, or laptops. Meaning that if you have work (or play) to do on your journey, you don't have to worry about running out of juice on the way.
