Now no train service is going to be perfect all of the time but I must say that Virgin trains make a good fist of providing a fast and efficient service in some modern trains that are quite enjoyable to travel on. It has to be said that usually I only have a forty minute journey to make using them but the fact that I drive for twenty miles rather than using my local service must tell you something.

My local staton Northampton only has one Virgin train to London each day and that is in the peak times hence I tend to make the drive to Milton Keynes when I have to travel by train to London, the extra cost in petrol is offset firstly by the fact that the train fare will be a bit cheaper and also the fact that day parking rates in Milton Keynes are almost a third of the rate in Northampton, add to his the benefit of a faster direct train service and the only time I do not use Milton Keynes and Virgin trains is if I know I will be drinking and unable to drive myself home.

Most of the trains are the modern tilting variety with nice comfortable seats and a good number of options with tables if you want to work or pull down trays for those that are not grouped around a table.

I find the service to be pretty punctual and the trains are generally clean, the toilets are the sliding door variety and take a little working out plus you always have the slight fear that the door will slide open to reveal you squatting over the loo.

I never bother with the food but they do have a buffet service and of course if you are prepared to splash the cash some nice posh seats as well in first class.
