Advantages: fast, ontime, regular
Disadvantages: expensive!!
I often use the Virgin Train service on the short 45 minute journey from Warrington Bank Quay to Lancaster, I've been doing this journey weekly for the last year or so and its always a virgin train which I use.
This journey costs £14.50 for a single fare when you buy at the kiosk or on the train, or £8.50 (app) if an advance ticket is bought. Which is really quite expensive really if we think about it...! As I said its only 45 minutes away, and 3 stops, so it is quite expensive to travel, but thats the same with all trains really! (They want us to use more public transport but its so expensive its just not possible!!)
But, the trains themselves actually do tend to be on time and the train I get, the one from London to Glasgow/Edinburgh runs pretty much every half an hour. And its rarely late on running times.
The trains tend to be clean and tidy when you enter them, but one bad thing is getting a seat at peak times is VERY hard as with every train! The annoying thing is when you see the first class coach is empty yet in Standard we're all squashed up like sardines!!!!! But, when your trying to get hundreds of people on a train its how its going to be! And it gets you from A-B!! Lol
All in all Virgin Trains is run very well, many people complaion about the train service, but I think its quite good, apart from the price of the fare, everything else is pretty good, seeing as they're regular and quick, and normally on time unless there is work on the track or some other kind of delay (which isn't very often!)!!!
I rate them very highly!!
Summary: Virgin trains are a good service apart from the price!!!!
