Advantages: Good pricing when booking in advance

Disadvantages: Possibility of delayed trains

A few months ago, I was going to London from Birmingham. I hadn't booked a ticket in advance and so was planning on getting a ticket on the day.. Before that day I had no idea how much it would cost, but since I used to see that you can book tickets in advance for £15.. I thought I probably will have to pay about £5-7 extra..

Boy was I wrong..

I really am confused with how Virgin comes up with their ticket pricing.

I was plannning on returning on the same day around 5:30pm. The lady at the counter said it would cost me £80 for a return ticket if I return before 6:30pm.!!! However, if I return after 6:30pm then the ticket costs £30..

Fifty pounds difference??? Yes, it's generally more expensive during peak times.. but this expensive??

I now go to London usually once a month, and now I always book a week in advance, which costs me only £15 for a return ticket..

Although if you book 2 weeks in advance then it's £10.
So far i've not been a victim of a delayed train (probably will regret saying that now).
