I have used Virgin trains a few times to visit family and friends in the Midlands. The station that they use in London is Euston, which is where I usually start my journey. I have mixed feelings about Virgin trains- they have their good and bad points! Firstly, I think that their trains are the best quality trains ... Read the complete review

Now no train service is going to be perfect all of the time but I must say that Virgin trains make a good fist of providing a fast and efficient service in some modern trains that are quite enjoyable to travel on. It has to be said that usually I only have a forty minute journey to make using them but the fact that I drive for twenty miles rather ... Read the complete review

I recently took a Virgin Train (and have used them a fair few times in the past) to go up to Manchester so I though I would write about my experience. National Rail was privatized back in the 90's and as such different companies bidded on different routes that they wanted to operate separately and hopefully profitably. Virgin trains ... I used use go regally from Edinburgh to London via train, then virgin train took over the west coat line, and because I did not like the arrogance and aggression of virgin the staff and found then unhelpful and self centred, I would opted to go on the GNER east cost line. GNER was a fabulous service perhaps not as new as Virgin train rolling ... Read the complete review

I have used Virgin Trains between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street on average 3-4 per month for the last three years, and I have to confess I'm not a fan. Now, let's be realistic. No train company is ever going to have 'fans'... well, I hope not. However, Virgin can at times, be utterly infuriating. In the time I ... Read the complete review

Having spent three years in a long distance relationship, this meant me using virgin trains every other weekend for a 200 mile journey. From these numerous journeys i now have mixed feelings about the service provided. It cannot be denied that virgin trains provide by far the most comfortable journeys - the seats are comfortable, ... The trains are comfortable with nice supportive headrests. The carriage was carpeted all over including the aisles and felt very homely and comforting to walk on especially after a day of walking it felt like arriving home. The carpet was a little muddy and the tables were grubby with tea/coffee stains - there was also a lot of rubbish - that said ... Read the complete review

I seem to spend a great deal of time on trains, mainly due to the fact that I don't 'do' driving. But in a funny sort of way I actually quite enjoy it. I've already reviewed my experiences on Northern Rail which I use for my daily commute. ---Today's journey--- Today (5th September 2008) however I am travelling ... Read the complete review

Having grown up using mainly MerseyRail and Arriva trains, Virgin Trains are a very welcome change for me. Upon boarding the train, You are greeted by cool, fresh air, rather than a stuffy rank cabin. Coaches are clearly marked with their letter, and seats with numbers to make locating your seat easy if you've pre-booked. ... Read the complete review

I think Virgin are great...BUT!...only if you get good decent priced tickets!! Virgin are waaaaayyy overpriced but if you get in there early you can grab some bargains!! I have been to London for £12 from Liverpool.... and Milton Keynes for £8 from Liverpool and many others, but these are my most recent trips. I have always ... Read the complete review

Going on holiday is supposed to be a great thing, but not when your spirits are crushed by what I can safely say was an abysmal train journey! I was travelling down to Edinburgh Haymarket, from Aberdeen. Going on my own was an instant guaranteed boring journey, no matter what service I was on! The minute I found my seat, I was ... Living on a town covered by GWR, Virgin trains are far better. Modern, clean and fast, with good fares off peak if you book in advance.
Advance booking is a problem on the West Coast line at the moment for weekend journeys, due to all the engineering work to upgrade the line, as Virgin seem unsure as to which services will be running. Once that is sorted (Dec 2008?), then the fast journeys will return with an improved frequency. Cheapest tickets are best researched on http://www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com/ though there are likely to be special offers on the Virgin site.

This is the WORST train company operating in the whole of Britain and probably Western Europe. Their website claims: "(seat) reservations can...be made from 6-8 weeks in advance for ALL ticket types". Sorry - it's 2 weeks before my journey, and I can't get a reservation on any train. So, I'm going to endure a 2 hour journey up to Penrith, where I will probably STAND on a cramped, overcrowded shack on bogies that Virgin dare to call a train! Last time I reserved a 'window seat', I got a nice blank panel instead! And was nearly bumped out of my seat by a person with the same seat reservation. But the worst thing is that I can't even avoid travelling with Virgin, as they dominate the nearest Mainline (WestCoast). At least the staff tend to be friendly. Good (but unfortunately useless) advice: AVOID VIRGIN AT ALL COSTS!!!

I used Virgin trains twice in the last year,I booked a first class ticket for me and my wife last year from crewe to London ,the
table was dirty with used cup and plates by previous passengers and when I mentioned it to the hostess She said it is not her job ,and also when I enquired about parking facilities in Crewe station I could not get an answer ,I was told to drive to the station to find out,I complained by email I had no reply this was last year this year there was a two hour delay,I think for the price we pay we should get a better service.

Too expensive.
After seeing all the promotions about the cheap train tickets I have been checking the internet every day for a journey I plan to make in a few months time. I have not been able to find any "value advance" tickets. The penny has finally dropped - I want to to travel at the weekend so can't get a cheap ticket.

Everyone these days seems to be whinging about public transport especially the trains. I hate public transport, always try to avoid it as much as possible and to be honest I have only ever caught a train once in my life and that was many years ago. Beware! I cancelled my ticket the day before travel, having not yet collected it from the fastticket machine. Now (18 days later) I have not had my £132 back. Rang & spoke to an Indian call centre who said I would have to wait another 15 days as someone has to physically go and collect my tickets from the machine and this had not yet been done. 30 days for a refund!

A few weeks ago I was browsing the Argos catalogue and realised that I couldn’t get what I wanted off the website or within a 120 mile radius of my home. I was very upset as it would mean travelling for 2 hours + to get to the store. After asking my dad and then my partner to drive me to the store (I cannot drive) I realised that I would either ...
