I absolutely hate planning travel. I love to go places and see people but the whole thing about booking trains and sorting out dates does my head in. I always travel by train when I can and have been regularly using the lovely rail networks we have for years - especially to visit my Dad in Northampton and my friend in Brighton. I used to ...  Read the complete review

I lived in the UK from 1986 until 1994, and besides my private car, I used, for the fun of it, British Rail on many occasions, including many of the routes now covered by Virgin Trains. I was very impressed with the rail system back then, and often commented on how much better it was than our American railways, which have been in steep decline for ...  Read the complete review

I often feel I'm in the minority when i praise Virgrin Trains, but what the hell here is my opinion. I use Virgin on average to or three times a month usually travelling either upto Glasgow or down to London from Liverpool. I always book Virgin Value 1st Class tickets a great bargain with a railcard as you get 1st class travel ...  Read the complete review

I use Virgin XC fairly often to travel between my home in Stoke-on-Trent and University in Oxford, so I feel qualified to comment on the service. The journey should take 2 and a half hours, and, very occasionally, the service does run to time. However, I frequently experience delays, either in departure time, or en-route. It seems that even if the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Virgin Trains: Worse Train Operator in the E.U. (834 words)

Not owning a car, I have always used trains since I was a kid. Indeed my small town where I grew up had a fairly decent train service and was a passport to wider world. I can say since Virgin (and indeed the railways were sold off/out) started operating West Coast Railways they are easily the worst train service in the E.U. ...  Read the complete review

My job takes me from my home in Sunny Scunthorpe to Coventry a few times a year for training courses, and being a non-driver I am at the mercy of public transport. There are several routes available to me but the one which suits my travelling times best involves a return journey which includes a Virgin train from Birmingham New Street to ...  Read the complete review

Let me tell you a story. On Wednesday 7th of November I caught the 7.26am train from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston. The journey is supposed to take two hours and 37 minutes, arriving at London at 10.03am. Hands up anyone who thinks this happened? Gradually, we start to lose time, as trains heading in this direction always do, somewhere in ...  Read the complete review

Virgin Trains: Nice staff -below the average service punctuality (93 words)

Virgin trains is the total opposite from Midland Mainline:Their staff is very polite and helpful but their schedule suffers from late runnings. It's certainly not a good company to be on the first class (I've been in many trains where there wasn't a first class coach and there were people that had paid for that extra space),but on the ...  Read the complete review

Any Scots reading this will probably remember a Scotch and Wry sketch in which a long suffering commuter filled a plate with mince, custard and tomato sauce and promptly threw the lot over a Jimmy Savile billboard . Well we’ve come a long way, now it’s Richard Branson’s fuzzy fizzog that warrants our comestibles. ...  Read the complete review

You could say that they can't run a railway for toffee, but you've got to admit that they have an uphill struggle. Old trains, Old track, however the Virgin customer service ethic IS making a difference. Their trains might be late, but drop Mr Branson a line and you'll get some money back! Virgin trains. We've all heard the jokes, all heard the excuses, all complained at one time or another. Virgin trains have suffered a tirade of damning press reports over recent years following the brand's venture into the country's railways. As a relatively infrequent rail user, I tend to make use of their West Coast services in the main. Express Review on Virgin Trains
by - written on 18/06/01

Virgin - As in their punctuality targets are rather akin to hymen's - They've never been broken. - Advantages: Free Coffee in 1st Class, Paid for my taxi after I was two hours late for a meeting. - Disadvantages: Punctual.... what's that?!, Overcrowding seems like order of the day!, Rather average to poor customer service.... as in excuses from staff.
