I have just been to Yorkshire and took the train, my journey was between Burton on Trent in the Midlands and Pontefract in West Yorkshire. The bulk of my journey was on a Virgin Train (Derby-Wakefield) with a little local service either side. I ordered my tickets through thetrainline.com (see my review on that for a rundown on that service). ... Read the complete review

Ok then, hands up if you sat on a Virgin Train and it was late? Hands up that it was old, dirty and the buffet closed half way through? Hands up..... you got bored had nothing to read and your walkman bateries ran out? Well my hands are still on the keyboard (and I've never seen a commuter with three hands!!) so you're ... Travelling to London recently, I booked on-line via thetrainline.com and the cheapest route was by Virgin trains. Now, it seems (in the public eye) that Virgin Trains ranks as about the wworst train operator in the UK but is this right? Yes. Virgin trains - and their staff -are awful. I may have been looking in the wrong place but I ... Read the complete review

I'm not one to shy away from writing a controversial review and so I am quite happy to write about the excellent service offered by Virgin Trains. The trouble is that I do shy away from lying and so, unfortunately for them, I will have to give yet another negative review to one of Britain's biggest rail operators Firstly though ... A few months ago, I was going to London from Birmingham. I hadn't booked a ticket in advance and so was planning on getting a ticket on the day.. Before that day I had no idea how much it would cost, but since I used to see that you can book tickets in advance for £15.. I thought I probably will have to pay about £5-7 extra.. Boy was ... Virgin Trains provide a high quality, low cost service that is as reliable as can be expected given the circumstances. The trains are always clean, the staff courteous in their manner and in the face of the perenially disgruntled whining British public. I travel frequently by train; there are only infrequently significant delays. How people ... Read the complete review

Last year I used to travel from Reading to Birmingham International on the train to go to work. It was a tale of 2 contrasting journeys. The journey up to Birmingham on the 0733 was usually pleasant. The train was relatively empty until Leamington Spa and I was able to work using my laptop. Virgin also provided free copies of the ... Read the complete review

Virgin trains can probably provide you with some of the cheapest rail tickets in the UK. But there is a price to pay. Virgin trains are almost invariably late, and often quite dirty. They go through highs and lows, but they seem to spend most of the time in the lows than in the highs! Nevertheless the trains from Virgin are rather comfortable. You ... Read the complete review

I've used virgin trains loads as it means I can get from where I want without having to change and get a connection . This was to make my life easier as I normally have loads of bags and trailing up stairs to change platform would be a nightmare . Well I have never been on the Plymouth to Aberdeen train when it has been on time , and ... Read the complete review

This train service is the worst I have ever taken in my life. Out of 10 times I travelled on the Cross Country Train service, 8 times the train had been late to reach the destination. I have been really upset with Virgin, after all, they charged to dear for the train tickets! Since as a consumer, I had to forked out so much money to buy the train ... Read the complete review

Right, first things first. Surely the point of public transport is to encourage people not to use their cars? To do that, you have to offer good service at affordable prices. Well this lot most certainly don't do that. The trains themselves are very noisy and it is difficult to get any rest or anything. The chairs are also very ... Read the complete review

If Virgin get the East Coast main line deal, we'll be travelling from London to Edinburgh in approximatly 3hrs! Ok, so Virgin may need a little polishing around the edges, but isn't every train company guilty of running late due to various problems, fighting off track repairs and so on? Now that the InterCity East Coast franchise ... Read the complete review

Is it me or does it seam that since Branston Pickle took charge of most of the railway network it has all gone down hill! I'm not one of those people who constantly runs down Virgin Trains. I travel long distances with them at least once a fortnight, and most often I get where I'm going more or less on time, without incident, which is what you want. In the days when I was hopelessly poor, I used to travel on the Silverlink, Northampton line, Brum/London, at least once a week, generally over a weekend. The return trip was about 4.5 hours, buffetless, bumpy old wagons, fairly grim BUT cheap (£13). Nowadays, I can occasionally lord it for the £22 Virgin train. Cuts about 1.5 hours off ... Virgin trains are complained about a lot, and through my experience deserve this, and they have recently added cause for more complaint. A new rail regulation means rail companies can change their definition of peak time, so Virgin has decided to extend its peak time 1 hour to 10:30am, a hour longer than GNER's and therefore some ...
