Advantages: Saves loads!

Disadvantages: Is quite a lot to start with.

I bought my railcard last week at the cost of £24. I was slightly annoyed as a few 'deals' had just finished (it had been half price in March and a few sites just stopped the cashback on them) but none the less, it will save me loads!

The process of getting the card is simple as long as you have a driving license or a passport. All you need to do is fill in a few details and up load your photo.

I ordered it 9am Thursday morning on the internet and got it by 9am the next morning, I consider that great service especially as I didn't pay for any postage.

You save 33% on all off-peak trains subject to a minimum charge, although throughout July and August there is no minimum charge so even on short journeys you save.

Another point is the underground, for people who visit London a lot, you can have this card loaded onto your oyster card and then get 33% off all the tube fairs, if you don't have an oyster card, just say you have a railcard when you buy your travelcard and you will be given a discount off that aswell.

This can save a massive amount through the year, I have heard instances of people saving the original cost of the card in just one journey, so it's definitely worth checking out the discount if you have any long journey to make.

Having had this card a while now, I advise that you NEVER use a young persons ticket if you know you've left your card at home. I have been stopped around half the times I have used my card by guards on the gates asking to see my young persons card - you have been warned!

One word of advice though, make sure your photo is better than mine!!
