Advantages: saving money....what more assentive do you need?

Disadvantages: if your only doing small journeys you'll need more than one journey to make it worth your while

The Young Person's Railcard has now changed it's name to the 16-25 card meaning that it isn't just us students who use it....me? i'd be lost without it - I travel to and from Uni when i come home to visit and i save £5 each time, meaning in five train journey's i've saved the price of the card.

For those that don't know the Railcard gives you 1/3 off fares throughout Great Britain and costs just £24 for 1 year, or £65 for 3 years - And, when you buy online, you'll also be eligible for a FREE YHA membership worth £9.95! You buy your card's online, at a train station or over the phone with national rail.

The only way to prove how cost effective this is is to do some research -
If you want to travel from, say, Glasgow to London your average return ticket would cost £108.80 for return and £271.00 for an open return - this railcard gives you these for: £71.80 a return and £178.85 for an open return giving you a saving of £37 on a return and almost £100 on an open return (of course if you know your stuff then two singles are cheaper) but with this you are saving way more than the cost of the railcard making this a sure fire cost effective method!

I travel alot and for me, the railcard is well worth it's price tag - i mean, obviously if your only travelling a short journey every now and then it won't add up but i urge all students across the country to buy one if you live away from home...more money to spend on drink and baked beans ;)

Summary: Train Journeys made cheaper.:D
