When you are in Blackpool it is not a particularly nice place to drive a car as the roads are so busy, and people seem to just wander across the road, never looking if there are any cars coming.

We always park the car and then use the trams for getting about in the town. This can work out a bit dear if you keep buying individual tickets, but you can buy a Travel Card which then gives you unlimited travel on all of the Blackpool trams and buses.

You can buy a Travel Card for either 1, 3, 5 or 7 days. The one day card costs £4.50 for adults and £4 for children. If you are staying for a week the 7 day card only costs £16 for adults and £14 for children. This can be a great saving and if your children are old enough to go off on their own it means you can be sure they will be able to get back on the buses and trams even after they have spent all of their money on the amusement arcades.

The card is valid over the whole of the tram system from Fleetwood in the north to Starr Gate in the south. The bus routes extend even further, going right down to Lytham St. Annes.

I must admit that we have never used the buses, but there certainly does seem to be plenty running about. However, the trams we use a lot as one thing you can be sure of at Blackpool is that you can do an awful lot of walking, and it is good to jump on a tram now and then to rest your legs for a while.

The trams are very frequent along the seafront, about every two minutes and even for the longer journeys (like up to Fleetwood) they are about every ten minutes. Of course there is also the novelty value of travelling on a tram. On busy sunny weekends the tram company also uses a lot of the older open trams which really a delight to travel in, even if they are a bit shaky and noisy.

You can buy the one day Travel Cards on a bus or tram, but the tickets for longer periods have to be bought from transport offices or tourist information centres.
