Newest Review: ... over to Kings Cross of St Pancras station it is actually easier to walk from Euston to these stations than to use the tube it is only about a 5 minute walk. Being a regular traveller into Euston from the North-west of england I decided to write a short opinion on it. The station was originally built in 1837 but was redeveloped during the electrification of the West Coast Maine Line in the mid sixties. The new station has changed little since then remaining an example of 60's architecture. Euston is without doubt the dullest of all London's Major railway stations. The station consists of a large main waiting area surrounded my shops and eateries, a large board displaying arrivals and departures and 18 platforms. Euston was one of the first London railway termini to be built – in 1838. Up to its redevelopment in the 1960’s one of its most striking features was the Doric arch comprising a massive stone tablet on 4 Greek pillars. The electrification of the West Coast Mainline in the early 1960’s saw the demolition of the old station and its replacement by the bland terminus, which currently stands there. What was worse was the demolition of the arch – an example of 1960’s architectural vandalism !! Parts of the arch have been found in back gardens – but the majority of it has been lost forever.
