Euston was one of the first London railway termini to be built – in 1838. Up to its redevelopment in the 1960’s one of its most striking features was the Doric arch comprising a massive stone tablet on 4 Greek pillars.

The electrification of the West Coast Mainline in the early 1960’s saw the demolition of the old station and its replacement by the bland terminus, which currently stands there. What was worse was the demolition of the arch – an example of 1960’s architectural vandalism !! Parts of the arch have been found in back gardens – but the majority of it has been lost forever.

Anyway, back to the bland……

The current station is large (15+ platforms) and has a huge waiting area surrounded by shops, eateries and a Ticket office. Underneath the station is a car park. Above the station is an office block once home to British Rail.

It is served by 2 underground tube stations: Euston serving the Victoria and Northern lines and Euston Square serving the Circle and Metropolitan lines.

From Euston, you can travel to:

· Birmingham/Wolverhampton and Coventry
· Glasgow
· Blackpool/Preston/Crewe
· Manchester
· Liverpool
· Holyhead
· Milton Keynes

And a host of more local destinations between London and Birmingham.

The Station is characterless and functional. We have the designers from the 1960’s and the lack of listed building status to thank for that !!
