Advantages: Cheap

Disadvantages: Crammed, notoriously late, breakdowns

I've been riding megabus for 5 years as I was a student from Inverness studying in Glasgow.

Megabus is not exactly a pleasurable experience and any time I can get a cheap train I will certainly choose this over the bus!!

A megabus return journey between these 2 cities can cost £2 but only if you get the first seat on each leg. On average I would say it costs around £15 with a 50p booking fee. You can book via the website or by calling their hotline (although I have never tried this option).

The bus is full of OAPs who get free travel and students. The bus is notorious for being late and breaking down. The journey which should take 3hours 40 minutes has taken me up to 9 hours before - not a happy experience. This was due to a combination of factors - the bus being late, the replacement then breaking down and then the connection in Perth leaving with out the Inverness passengers.

Megabus is an ok option if you can get on for cheap. I wouldn't recommend travelling on it for too long such as the Inverness - London journey as the seats are rather crammed and the air conditioning rarely works. If you can get a cheap deal on the train - certainly take the train!!!

Summary: Get the train if you can!
