Yesterday it was annouced that Merseyrail, part of the Arriva group are going to lower rail fares in an attempt to make Liverpool's transport greener. Congratulations, at last someone is attempting to do what should have already happened. However rail fares will only fall on a sunday, and only till Christmas. 50p for a ten minute rail journey is fair enough, £2.25 at peak time for the same journey is appaling, and makes me and many other locals want to abandon the train and jump in the car.
Is it not time that the government helped the UK by forcing lower fares on all public transport? the trains need just run on time and be cheap, and have enough capacity.
