Disadvantages: its poo
I have a very bad and very biased opinion of National Express, because of a bad experience with them, this year. I was going to the Reading festival and Natinal Express were doing a special service from Manchester all the way to the festival and camping site. So we get onto the hot sweaty coach with no leg room, but what can you expect, its cheap. It all started to go wrong when the driver got lost, we were due to arrive at the festival at 2:00pm which is just enough time to get a decent camp spot. But we are still on the motorway at 2:30, and if you get into Reading town too late, there will be a massive backlog of traffic. So thats what happened, we got into Reading at about 3:30, and are stuck in a roasting tin of a coach. After about 45 minutes we arrive at a shopping centre car park, and our driver annouces, "I'm not going any further, we'll be this traffic all day, it would be quicker to walk." We were at this stage quite happy to do what the the driver says, as with a gesture of the hand he says, "Its just over, only a five minutes walk." Now our bags are quite heavy, packed with tents, cloths but mostly beer, but we willing to walk this little bit to get there quicker. So we set off, about 15 minutes we're thinking, we can't go much further and are quite devestated to come across a very steep hill. We plod on just following the signs saying "Reading Festival." We are about to give up and drink our beer to make our bags lighter, when we see it, the sight entrance, so we hurry and manage to arrive there for just before 6:00pm, only four hours late, to find all the decent camp spots gone.
Our story doesn't end there, on the way back we have the same coach driver, who is not very popular. He is again late gettings back, this time only an hour. But the worst part, the thing we could not beleive he did again, as approached the National Express depot, we notice a closed road, the driver stop
s, is he dropping us here? No, he turns around, he must know another root. After driving for about ten minutes we stop, in Castlefield, the driver annouces, "You'll have to get out here, theres no way through, its only over there," we quickly got our bags and escaped into a taxi, while other passengers argued with the driver. Because we know how far Castlefield is from the depot.
