Advantages: Gorgeous Drivers
I had to write an opinion on this after reading some of the others here.
This could be a long one so here goes, National Express services do run late regularly simply because the timetables are impossible! Coach speed limits have been lowered from 70mph to 62mph (100kph) and coaches are now not allowed to use the outside lane, we are now sat behind trucks doing 56mph (90kph).
Most of the Hostesses have now gone leaving the driver to do even more, but with no more time and for no more money (surprise surprise). Why you might ask,
well the drivers don't work for National Express but for private companies who are contracted to National Express, they take their cut, leaving the driver on a pittifully low wage of between £4 and £5.40 an hour... yes really, is there any wonder that every coach and bus you see has a large advert on the back saying "drivers required"
what a surprise they never mention the wage.
So next time you get on a coach give the driver a break, or next time you may be waiting a long time because there are no drivers left...
As for timetables; National Express say that it is only a GUIDE and as they state
"The published running times of services are only stated approximately......We do not undertake that services will start or arrive at the time specified in the timetables....nor do we undertake that such services will connect with any other services shown as connecting services in such circumstances" ??
