Advantages: Very cheap
Disadvantages: Not much legroom
After reading the other opinions on this topic, I felt I should come to National Express' rescue. National Express cover over 1200 destinations across Britain and are Britain’s only network of scheduled coaches.
If you’re a student like me then traveling home cheaply and easily at weekends is essential at times (especially when you need your washing done!!). National Express offer a student discount card, costing nine pounds a year or nineteen years for three. This is not much and pays for itself within two or three trips. The coach is also cheaper than the rail on the journeys I use but do not take this as gospel and compare the prices if you do not want to waste money. National Express is endorsed by UCAS and the NUS.
As well as the standard stops around Britain, they also lay on services to special events such as the cup final or the Leeds festival. National Express also offer journeys across Europe at a very cheap price up to six times a day such as London to Amsterdam for less than fifty pounds. Most services to mainland Europe depart from London, which could be a problem for some people.
To book tickets you can either ring their ticket line or visit any National Express agent or shop (call 08705 010104 to find your nearest). National Express also have a website allowing you to book tickets. www.gobycoach.com is very easy to use and self explanatory. You simply enter where you’re traveling to and from and then choose your journey times and enter your credit card details. Your tickets are then posted to you 1st class but if you book last minute you can pick them up from any of the coach stations.
On the journey’s I have made I have not experienced any major delays and the only complaint I have is that there is not much legroom. However, given the price I am willing to give up a few luxuries as long as the coaches are clean and on time. However, I have not sat on a coach for more than around four hou
rs and I am sure that if you are going to Europe, you would get very frustrated if you had long legs!!
