Sandbach Transport Festival

1 Review

Sandbach is a "Transport Town" in that both ERF and Foden lorries were made in the town. The first idea of a festival to recognise Sandbach's link with the industry was a special parade held in April 1992. This was so successful that it is now an annual event. The parade consists of all types of transport - cars, buses, lorries, steam vehicles and horses.

Ok, so most people will probably be sat there thinking "Where the ****** is Sandbach?" And I wouldn't blame you. But, there are a few times a year when this little town off Junction 17 of the M6 comes alive. Namely the Elizabethan Market, Funfair and (drumroll!) the TRANSPORT FESTIVAL. Other than for residents of the town (who don't get out much) this festival does cater for very specific tastes. But with and open mind and an open wallet there is great fun to be had by all. The main feature of this festival is the main parade. It showcases all kinds of vehicles from Morris Minors to military trucks from every age. There is a great sense of community spirit as everyone rallies and cheers the cars and trucks through the town. And who could forget the local speciality....lorries! You can spend all day wandering around the squares looking at the displays, and most owners are happy to let you sit in them and answer any questions, in fact most are extr4emely proud of their vehicles, and why not? As well as the transport factor the festivals also has many market stalls, games and entertainment. It's a great family day out, for both young and old alike. And whether you're a fan of this kind of thing or bot, you can't help but go away with a smile on your face! You really have to be there to understand the magic (a bit like disneyland really!) PS Bob Barley says to tell you he was once in the transport festivals parade, something of which he's very proud! ;)
