Travelling to London recently, my train arrived into, and left from St Pancras Station. This is one of London's largest stations, and a lot of trains from all over the country end up arriving here. Arriving at Pancras was painless - it's a huge high arched ceilinged building, and walking out of it you find yourself near Kings Cross - ideal for travelling elsewhere within London.

When it came time to leave the city though, I found myself having to kill some time at the station while I waited for my train. Facilities are very poor indeed - there are a couple of shops - a very small W H Smiths, and a little shop selling food and drink - revolting sandwiches and melted ice creams among their stock. There were only about 8 benches in the whole station - not very impressive when there are large numbers of people waiting for trains, and I couldn't find a litter bin to dispose of my poisonous sandwich at all. Toilets had a distinct lack of toilet paper - not good at all when you've had to pay for the privilege of getting into them in the first place. The high iron girdered ceiling and three walled design of the station means the place is full of pigeons - being crapped upon from a great height is a constant worry as droppings rain down around you. On top of this, the arrival boards completely failed to inform me of the arrival of my train.

If in London and you find that you're faced with the prospect of having to wait any more than about 15 minutes at St Pancras, don't. Kings cross is about 5 minutes down the road, and has a lot more shops, and places to eat and sit
