The black cabs are a safe and reliable option in Glasgow, however expect to pay a lot more for this service than private hire companies. The black cabs have a very useful telephone booking service where you only have to press one button to order your cab, and they will call you when it's on your way. Watch out at the weekends when it will cost you £4 just to step inside one of these cabs before you start your journey home. However you can fit 5 in one of these, so it works out cheaper if you share!

Southside Radio Cars (0141 883 3333) are probably the fastest and most reliable private hire company I know in Glasgow that you don't need to pay through the nose for. They operate mainly between the southside of the city and the centre of town, but you may get lucky and find one in your area if they have a drop of in the north of the city.

Expect long waits for taxies when the football is on and at christmas time!
