Trains in Glasgow

Newest Review: ... And on a whole the Greater Glasgow trains are smashing, they run a variety of routes and have stops pretty much anywhere you need. The train times are consistant if a bit odd at certain stops, for instance there are 4 trains an hour from my station leaving at 04, 27, 34 and 57 which is great, but if u miss the 34 it is a fair wait until the next one. From Glasgow is much better, they are roughly every 15 minutes. Unfortunately on my line all the trains go to queen street so if their is a problem on the Queen street line there can be issues getting home. Which brings me on to my final point. The trains on a whole are great, and when the... more

What can I say about trains in Glasgow? A lot! But don't worry I'll keep it brief. So I'm a student who lives outside Glasgow but travels in every day by train. The train is definately the quickest and easiest way to get into and out of Glasgow during rush hour! Premium Review Glasgow's pride, Britain's best urban rail network (429 words)

To put it briefly, Glasgow has the largest urban rail network anywhere in the UK outside London. A legacy of Glasgow's dynamic industrial and commercial past, the city has managed to preserve a reliable, fast and affordable transport system that puts other British cities to shame. All suburban trains in and around Glasgow are operated by ScotRail and use the stations and tracks of Network Rail (only the circular Glasgow Subway is completely independent of that infrastructure). In the past the trains have been operated by or for the SPT (Strathclyde Passenger Transport, now Strathclyde Partership for Transport) but with the re-organisation of public transport ...  Read the complete review

Glasgow is the proud owner of the second largest suburban train network in the UK, a fact that is plastered over almost all promotional material from SPT (Strathclyde Passenger Transport). The train network does not solely cover Glasgow, rather it covers the former region of Strathclyde, extending to Helensburgh in the north-west, Cumbernauld in the north-east, Lanark in the south-east, and Girvan in the south-west. Due to historical reasons, the Glasgow network has two hubs: Glasgow Central station (Gordon Street, Hope Street, Union Street and Argyle Street) is the departure point for all trains to the south of the River Clyde, South ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review 110 Stations. (400 words)

The city of Glasgow seems to have really taken on-board the idea of a good integrated public transport system. Part of that system is the train network. There are about a dozen rail lines serving the city of Glasgow and the surrounding area which provide a fast and cheap service. To make the best use of the system, if you are visiting the area, is to buy a Roundabout ticket. This provides you with unlimited travel to over 110 stations and unlimited use of the underground system. These tickets are £3.50 for adults and £1.75 for children. They are available after 9.00am Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and public holidays. The hub of the ...  Read the complete review
