Advantages: Quick, Efficient, Easy, Oyster Card, Good Transport Around London & Outskirts

Disadvantages: Dirty, Busy, Expensive Without Oyster Card, Delays + Strikes + Weather Problems

The London Underground is a train service, which runs right through London and around the outskirts too so you can easily get into Central London. It contains many different lines: Bakerloo, Central, Circle, District, Hammersmith & City, Jubilee, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria and Waterloo & City lines. They are each coloured so you can distinguish them on the map.

Not all the trains used throughout the service are underground trains - in fact many are over ground. You get the larger ones, which are slightly taller and wider and you get the small ones around the tubes. None of the trains are currently air-conditioned, which people seem to complain about, as it's a big problem in the summer. They aren't uncomfortable, but they are when you have to stand or when they are packed so you are squeezed in to a carriage like sardines in a tin.

The trains are either fast ones (on the Metropolitan line and a few others) or 'slow' ones, which stop at every stop. You get semi-fast ones too, which skip out a few stops, so you need to make sure it stops where you want. The trains on the outskirts aren't usually too busy but ones such as the Bakerloo, Circle and District lines can get extremely busy.

The underground trains are actually quite far underground and you will find stations across London with steps and escalators reaching deep underground. It can get quite breezy down there due to the trains rushing through the tunnels and I haven't heard of many accidents besides the train bombings by terrorists a few summers ago. Train prices have shot up over the last few years so it's necessary that you have an Oyster card to save money whilst traveling on the London Underground or it can cost as much as £1.50 for one stop in parts. I'd recommend using it as it's fast and the trains are usually on time but you do get the odd delays and strikes and in the winter months, snow and ice always causes problems on the tracks!
