Advantages: Clean, airy
Disadvantages: Lack the traditional smell!
I do not know if anyone has been on the recent extensions of the tube around the docklands/millenium dome/canary wharf area... but I must admit that the new stations are very smart. They are large and very clean with ample drop off and pick up areas on street level. The signing within the stations is generally good but I am not sure about the going onto one patform to get to another as shown by that of Canada Water. I imagine this could cause a bit of a problem if the first platformm is busy with a lot of jostling potential! The safety feature (as being intoduced at many tube stations) of no access to the actual track is standard across the board with the newer stations - boosting their appeal. I give the tube authority a big thumbs up for these innivative station designs that are very much user friendly.

- 07/08/00 The features you mentioned are the ones that London Underground Ltd has been trying to raise money for since Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister. Managers of LUL want bigger platforms and more safety measures at *all* the stations - but it costs a lot of money, which the owners, HM Govt. do not want to pay.
Not that it would be cheap or easy to start re-excavating Leicester Square, Charing Cross or Bank stations with all the road traffic chaos it would cause of course. Still, while improvements come far more slowly than desired, they are coming. |

- 14/07/00 I've only been on the Tube once and didn't like it. Filthy Londoners! Sounds like they're learning their lessons. |
