you people dont answer to any complaints or queries, you just persist in turning up ridiculously late and ruining peoples livs, thanks uno for holding me back in my education dramatically
I tweet everyday this bus is late, only exception it was in time was a women driving, back in December the bus didn't even show up and I couldn't get into work.
I've emailed Michael Finn who said he would investigate and to date have not heard nothing.
The past two days one particular grumpy driver nearly
Took out a horse and it's rider after speeding in a 30 zone, slamming his brakes on and causing chaos on the bus. Yesterday he pulled out onto a roundabout after stopping in front of a car and again having to brake so hard passengers were forced forward of their seats.
This service which we pay for is a joke, half the drivers are moody, no smiles or a polite "hello" apart from one who made the whole bus laugh with his sense of humour I felt like writing into the company to give him a "big up"
I am at my wits end with frustration and don't understand why mine and other peoples complaints arnt dealt with in a customer friendly focused fashion!
I am an occasional user of Uno buses. Often they run a good service but when things start going wrong they seem unable to cope. Before Christmas we were at the bus stop about ten minutes before the bus was due. It never arrived! We were unable to find anything out as their phones are (allegedly) staffed from 09:00 - 17:00 M-F only. We did ask some other Uno drivers but they seem to be out on their own with no idea what is happening elsewhere and no body they can contact (although I hope they have a number in case of breakdown). The next two hourly buses did not come either and eventually we made our way home by another route. To date (despite chasing up, Uno have not responded to my complaint!
My daughter gets the school bus that is opereated by Uno buses and since the beginning of the school year at least once a week she would call me from the bus stop and say that the bus just drove past her and the bus driver ignoring her standing there waving her arm up and down. I sit for 30 mins trying to call them with nobody answering the phones. This is the most useless company ever, the drivers are rude, they are always late and no one in their office cares to even answer the phones or email back to numerous complaints. I will have to take her out and place her in a local school as this is affecting her attendance and school work.
What a horrible unorganised service uno bus 655 has. Every morning comes late 10-15 mins once or twice of week there is no bus and we need to take 8.20 ones. I am late to work! I pay for that service but I don't get it back any things.At 5:15bus didn't turn up on 28-29 October. Next one is at 5:40 but we took it 5:57.I'm wondering what will be happen tomorrow? Is there no any UNO bus responsible person or managment to manage the running of bus? Is that a difficult job for them? If its they should quite! Or make your business to make sure your busses are running regularly! There's older people are waiting, students, people who work.Please recpect US!
I make the following points:
- A day ticket is different from a return, therefore, they will be priced differently. A day ticket is unlimited travel within appropriate zones. A return ticket is a journey to and from a destination with no breaks on either leg of the journey. There is no such ticket as a "student return", only student singles and student day tickets.
- The company does not provide a float, therefore any change given to a passenger is either from previous ticket sales or comes out of the driver's own pocket. The onus is on the passenger to have the correct fare. It is possible to have 20 passengers on board, none of whom has tendered money.
- Regarding the tearing up of a change voucher by the driver. This cannot be done as the issuing of the said voucher is within the electronic system of the ticket machine. Drivers are not supposed to issue money on a change ticket that they have previously issued.
- Buses cannot leave a few minutes early to allow for traffic as that would mean running early. This can result in a fine for the bus company and a disciplinary for the driver.
- Traffic is a legitimate excuse for a bus running late. Car drivers have the option of choosing an alternative route when traffic is heavy. Bus drivers have to stick to the route.
Late for work by two hours again today, this is the 7th time in the last month and a half- all solely due to the poor running of this service. Simply unbelievable. With a few exceptions the drivers are generally rude and dismissive, I have lost count of the amount of times ive phoned the advice line to inquire about the late running of a service. only to clearly have the phone picked up at the other end and put down with no answer. I have never written in to a review site before- but after 5 months of constant frustration with this AWFUL bus service i felt i just had to vent my frustration somewhere even if it makes no difference- which judging by the attitude of this cowboy company it clearly wont. arrrrrrrrr............
I finished work at 4:30pm today and had to wait two hours because three buses drove right past me while I had my hand held out!!!What should've been a thirty minute journey, turned into a three hour journey home.It took one and a half hours just to get to Hatfield station from London Colney!!It was the same when I went for an interview in St Albans, because the bus was an hour and a half late. There was no explanation from the driver, or an apology....The biggest insult is that I have no choice but to use this awful service!If you can, WALK!!
I'm currently a 2nd year student of the University of Hertfordshire traveling from Barnet The Spires Shopping Centre on the 614 bus. I recently started taking this route from my North London home. I previously used the Enfield route, 610 bus.
A friend recommended I use the 614 because it was less of a commute. I continued to pay the £4 charge for "Student Day Pass" like I did for the 610 bus route. That all changed one day when I forgot my student ID (which must be shown to the driver to get the student discount pass). So instead of asking for the 'student day pass' I asked for a 'return to the forum' (my Uni destination). I was amazed to find out that it only cost me £3.90. So much for a student discount UNO!
It seemed that I was better off not being a student when buying my ticket. The experiment started. So I then started asking for a 'return to the forum' ticket whilst showing my Student ID. Still charged £4! I did explain to the driver(s) on a few occasions that I didn't ask for a 'student day pass' but a 'return to the forum'. Some of them didn't seem to know about the £3.90 ticket. So now I just ask for a £3.90 'return to the forum' ticket (Adult ticket). Now at the end of the week I can treat myself to a sugar-ring donut!
Back to business now.....Surely this can't be right UNO? I thought you were mean't to be helping out students? What's really going on with your fares? And why aren't your drivers to trying to help students by offering them the cheaper option (£3.90 ticket) when students ask for a 'return to the forum' ticket? Is this some sort of ploy to make more money???
I find myself getting angry when I think of the experiences i have had, and other passengers have had. Some drivers "border" on being prejudice, others don't say a word, and most wouldn't think twice about driving past you.If I was China, I would not send students here's because of the treatment they would get travelling around on this service. Would the University start to care when they lose those multi-millions through international students not wanting to come here.
just had a really poor service from uno today. i ask for 2 singles from harpenden to luton. £4.40, not too bad. i give the driver a £10 and he tells me he has no change. i may have accepted this if i had given a £20. The problem is that this stop was more than half way through the route (636) and there were about 20 people on board, so he is basically telling me not one had cash, all had cards etc, which i find hard to believe. I get some ridiculous voucher for £5.60, which is very annoying, as i dont use the bus often. Ok, so i actually find a £1 on the seat next to me, so im thinking 'brilliant, i now have over £4.40 in change, and its exact. When i go to get off the bus i ask to exchange the change and the ticket voucher back, and he tells me he cant do refunds. how hard is it to rip up a piece of paper?! obviously too much effort. This leads to the underlying problem of why don't the drivers have a reserve few pounds in change. this is a joke and i will certainly be using arriva 321 bus from now on, even though they are more expensive.
i often find the bus drivers very rude. this morning i put my hand out to get on the bus and because i was about a foot out of the bus stop, the female driver thought she needed to be extremely rude to me " You do realise you are supposed to be at the bus stop BEFORE the bus gets there" i told her that there was no need to be that rude to me, she then went on to say that she was already running late, most bus drivers wouldn't have stopped for me and she didn't have to stop for me. when she said that i said i wish she hadn't and she opened the door and told me to get off. i told her no. and stood my ground until she took my fare, all the while she was giving me horrible looks. unbelievable.
Yet again Uno buses (655) have decided to just drive past Vespa Avenue St Albans, leaving the Marlborough School children to wait an hour for the next bus, trying to telephone Uno buses results in no one answering the phone & never a reply to emails. Is there anyone to complain to?does Uno buses answer to anyone?
Uno's service is variable at best. When it is not term time buses run less frequently but usually no later than 10 minutes. When it is term time however, expect buses to run up to 45 minutes late.
In the morning when buses come straight from the depot to your stop I'd advice getting there early as the driver like to leave up to 5 minutes early. If you complain to them they will probably become slightly abusive and state you should have arrived on time. Complaining via email to Uno about such behaviour results in a obligatory apology.
Uno bus drivers are occasionally pleasant but sometimes hurl abuse at other drivers and express complete disdain at being offered anything larger than a £5 note, as if they were somehow doing you a favour by honoring it with what little change they have. Apparently the idea of keeping a float was entirely bypassed. When you are short changed you are given a change voucher for future use on the Uno bus network, which drivers will reluctantly exchange for the change the next time you get on the bus.
What is really sad is the fact that this is the only service providing linkage around an otherwise disjointed Hertfordshire. With any luck the upcoming Abbey Flyer tram will blossom in a truly useful network that spans Herts beyond St Albans so reliance on the unreliable bus network will be a thing of the past.
If it was not for the staff discount I receive for working at the University of Herts I would gladly take the train and walk.
According to Transport for London, where I live, I am still in Zone 6 for trains (and underground if they had built that far out) and also within the boundaries of TfL when it comes to busses. Living on the far edge of this zone also means that there is not much by way of bus lines serving the town but there are still two lines that get you to the nearest underground station. Oyster cards are sold in a couple of shops and you're in London within 20 minutes if you take a train from our local station. So far so good.
But what to do when you want to go the other way, further north into Hertfordshire, towards St Albans, Hatfield and other towns but don't have a car or want to take a train?
There's not much choice, really. There are a couple of local InterLink busses operating within the town only (and to St Albans on a Sunday). There's an Arriva bus service to Watford once an hour which will set you back £3.00 for a single or £4.50 for a return/day ticket.
Step up UNO. UNO used to be called 'University Bus' because it was laid on mainly to get students to and from Hatfield's "University of Hertfordshire" to various towns around Hatfield. It was founded in 1992 and has become a part of the local bus landscape since then. It used to operate rickety old white busses with 'The University Bus' written on the side but over the past few years has undergone a major facelift. The colour scheme has changed and the busses, some band new, are bright pink and purple. And the name of the company was changed to UNO, after all, it was not only serving Hatfield University but also allowed everyone who wanted to get on, travel on their busses. Their slogan is 'the university bus for everyone'.
=== Routes ===
Considering this bus operates from Hatfield in Hertfordshire, its main routes are in and out of Hatfield and into the neighbouring towns and villages. Routes go as far as Hemel Hempstead, Watford in the west to Hitchin in the north, Broxbourne and Enfield and the East and as far south as Queenbury in London and Rayners Lane in Middlesex.
There are more than a dozen routes in and out of Hatfield and it's easy to catch a bus from towns and villages along the routes. Most routes run at least an hourly service, some of the more important routes have half hourly services while there are designated 'express' routes that only run at peak times and stop at major intersections.
The bus company is supported by Hertfordshire District Council and other local councils where low price or free passes are issued for travel on these busses.
=== Fares ===
UNO run a number of different fares. You can pay the driver for the journey, either as a single or return journey. Depending on where you get on the bus, the fare will rise. There are day tickets for a flat rate of £4.00, a weekly bus pass for £16.00 and a monthly pass for £52.00, these prices are for adult tickets only.
Where I live, there are at least 4 different fare stages, so depending on where you get on in town, the more expensive it is.
For me, a return ticket to and from work was £2.60 and it could sometimes work out cheaper to buy a monthly pass, other times I paid on a day to day basis. That way I could keep a log of when the bus was late.
One week in January, UNO decided that a fare increase was on the cards and without much warning, they increased the price per journey by 10 pence for adults. Child fares were not affected. Suddenly, one morning I was asked for an extra 10 pence on my return ticket. It soon become apparent that a monthly pass was more cost effective and I bought one.
The advantage is that you can you a pass on any route, all across the network, at any time. Well, considering that the busses run mainly weekdays with few on Saturdays and even fewer on Sundays, there isn't really that much chance to use the tickets outside work. But I do, very occasionally use the ticket to go to London Colney's big retail park or even Watford on a Saturday.
The busses are generally well maintained and fairly comfortable. On average, you will get the drivers on your route, most do the route on a regular basis, others step in occasionally but you get to know the drivers and you also know if you can actually point out that they are late or not - some of the drivers are right little so and so's and you don't want to mess with them as they are most likely to kick you off the bus.
=== UNO online ===
UNO bus have a website that is accessible on www.unobus.info/index.html. It gives company information as well as time tables of all routes and busses running on their network.
I often look up their time tables online when I have to go somewhere, in particularly at weekends. I noticed that the time table of the bus leaving Borehamwood on Saturdays is not online - and it hasn't been for a while. The time table is not displayed at bus stops either, making it very hard to find out when busses are running.
As a first stop for information, the website is certainly a good place to start. It will give you information on where the busses are going and what route the bus is on, and of course, how frequently it will pass through your town or village.
=== My day to day experience ===
I started working for a company that operate from a small village about 3 miles from where I live. I don't currently have a car so I have to take a bus to work, or the alternative would be to walk.
As luck would have it, the UNO bus company runs an hourly service from my town to Hatfield which stops at the village where I have to go to. If all goes well, an ordinary journey should only take about 10 minutes from my bus stop and would get me to my place of work with time to spare.
I have to take the first bus out from my town, there isn't an earlier service, there isn't another bus company serving that particular route either. It means that UNO have the monopoly on that particular route.
I have to take a bus at 8.46am and that is not too bad a time to leave for work. But on most occasion, the bus that was due to arrive at my stop at that time arrives between 5 and 10 minutes late. This is not a mean feat, considering that my town is the beginning of the route and not somewhere in the middle. If you challenge the driver about delays, you are likely to get the standard reply: "traffic". There is no apology or anything from the driver.
It does get a little more than irritating when the bus is in excess of 25 minutes late and taking the bus (when it eventually arrives) would mean arriving late for work. The alternative is a taxi ride which costs £7.00. And yes, I have opted for the taxi on a number of occasions as I couldn't afford to get into work an hour late.
The worst trouble is that the drivers don't even bother to apologise for delays, a little 'sorry I'm late' would go a long way, but not with this company. You are lucky to get anything out of them.
Getting home in the evenings is not much better. The bus back to my town is rarely ever on time. Of course the standard excuse is 'traffic' but that is wearing thin. There's always traffic and they should make sure that they work that into their time tables.
There is hardly a day when the bus is less than 5 - 10 minutes late. Other days the bus is up to 30 minutes late (market days in St Albans - but then again, the bus company know that).
It was only the other day that the bus happened to be on time and I almost missed it because I was walking to the bus stop with a colleague and I was arriving on time when the bus was already at the stop. It would have gone past me if there hadn't been someone getting on, hailing the bus, giving me a chance to get to the stop. It was the first time the bus was ever on time...
=== Using the rest of the network ===
Apart from using the bus to and from work, I sometime use the bus to go to Watford (may be a bit of a detour but at least I paid for it in my monthly pass). There are two busses an hour to Watford on the line I normally use (only one an hour where I live, same route number, though), or I take a bus to get to St Albans or London Colney. While it would be nice to have more than one bus an hour getting you home again (and getting you there on time), there isn't always a bus for me to take.
There were times, and I can recall a number of them in December and January in particular, when I sat in Watford, waiting for my bus to get me to the next stage of my journey and it didn't come - or it came with a massive delay. It's not a problem is you have all the time in world but I want to get home at a decent time and don't want to sit in the freezing cold and wait for a bus that never comes.
Delays on routes are an everyday occurrence and tend to get brushed under the carpet, it almost appears the company do not care one way or another about their customers.
=== Complaints ===
Okay, things sometimes go wrong (or on route 602 Borehamwood to Hatfield regularly) and there is reason to complain. I must say, getting in touch with the company is fairly easy. They have a telephone number you can call, an email addresss that is regularly answered and a mailing address that can be used.
I had a few occasions where I has to complain about the shockingly bad service I received and I always got an email reply within 24 hours. There was a case in January where I sent two separate emails and they were dealt with initially by email and then followed up by proper mail.
It seems that, although it sometimes seems the company don't listen to what the customer says, ultimately, they do respond and they do respond positively. My last lot of complaints resulted in receiving vouchers for future travel. I was not quite satisfied, I would have expected a little more but it was a start. (the vouchers were for a day short-changed on my February pass when the expiry date should have been 29th Feb but my ticket finished on Feb 28th. They did not compensate me for the day I had to take taxi because the bus was running more than 35 minutes late without explanation.
=== Conclusion ===
While the UNO bus company are offering, on most occasions, a well run service. However, there is still much room for improvement. All you ever hear from fellow passengers is the inability to keep to the time tables and delays of more than 10 minutes or more or not unusual. There are a lot of occasions when the company could avoid delays by just sending out the bus a few minutes early to avoid commuter traffic. A bus company should be aware of things like school holidays and listen to traffic reports and react accordingly. This is something I have always criticised when it comes to UNO. I have told in no uncertain terms that I will not accept excuses relating to 'traffic' any longer as the traffic situation is always the same and they should know about it. The only excuse for lateness I will accept is a couple of inches of unexpected snow.
It is a great help to have UNO serve a lot of smaller villages and town with their busses, the hourly service is only working when the bus actually turns up on time and gets you to where you want to go to.
If you live in a small village or town in Hertfordshire and need to go places, I suggest you save up for a car or get used to long waits for UNO busses to get you where you want and back...
