Comfortable and quick but at a price

Advantages: Roomy ,fast, nice seats, good facilities
I have often used the London Euston to Manchester line. Virgin generally runs a very good service and their trains are very quick. The seats are roomy enough to be comfortable on a 3 hour journey, even in standard class. It is easy to get a table seat and access to a plug socket if you are using a laptop. There is even wi-fi online, although I have never used this facility.
When you are booking a seat it is possible to specify the direction you would to face, whether you want to be near the toilet or doors, in a quiet zone, on a table seat, on a window seat etc. If you are carrying a large suitcase, you may find that it is too wide to roll down the economy aisle, but this is far less likely in the first class section.
There is an onboard shop which has a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, drinks and crisps. This is of course at a premium as they have a monopoly but the food is generally nice. They do tend to run out of the sandwiches in the late afternoon/evening.
The only real downside of these trains is that the tickets are expensive, especially if you are brave enough to travel during peak hours. This can be avoided by booking well in advance (I think 3 months is the limit) as good discounts are available. There is also a great guide on cutting fares here:
Summary: A great way to get from A to B
