Disadvantages: Can be pricey
I have used Virgin Trains many times to travel right across the line from Manchester to London or vice versa and between my University. I usually use an online site such as thetrainline.co.uk to book my tickets but they don't always ensure Virgin trains unless you book a specific one. Through the virgin site itself, you will always get Virgin trains but I'm not sure if it is as cheap - you'll have to look around!
I have got tickets before for journeys such as from Stoke-On-Trent to Manchester for just £8 or so. The trains are super fast, very comfortable and enjoyable to ride! As the train pulls up at the station, you can see clearly the letters on each carriage so if you have a specific seat, you can see where to go. The first class seats tend to be in the front carriage of the train. The doors too have fancy screens with information on them. You can never get on the wrong Virgin train accidentally as they all have destinations shown on screens on each and every door.
There is a little step up onto the trains, but the train makes up for this with lowering steps. There is space to store baggage at the end of each carriage but where you enter, there are always doors to the actual seating areas. These doors open by the touch of a button and help to contain noise in carriages and give it a nice atmosphere. There are also toilets scattered around, which aren't too bad. I've used them a couple of times and they have always been relatively clean. It's not like going to the toilet on a coach so I'm sure this is why they are OK!
I have even managed to get in first class once. I found a train ticket online, which was the cheapest one and the first class one was the same price so I thought why not! I get onto the train, a young student, amongst all these posh and if I may say smug people in suits. I think I was sitting opposite a consultant specialist too as he whipped out his NHS papers. In first class, I was offered a whole breakfast as well as tea, coffee and orange juice. It was quite pleasant - certainly wasn't expecting it!
The trains all have Wifi but you may need to be a part of the network to use it. They also have plugs by table seats to charge your laptops or other electricals. There are handrails above the seats to store smaller baggage and the train is carpeted to make it even more comfortable. The seats are great themselves and even the standard ones have a simple fold down table.
The train journeys have always been right on time and very smooth and comfortable! I'm sure they are the best out there and some of their journeys are really quick - such as Manchester to London in around 1 hour 45 minutes, which is great. I'd definitely recommend travelling with them but try to get your tickets through other sites as they could be cheaper!
Thanks for reading!

Summary: A great train company
