My experience of virgin trains appears to differ from the popular press image! 5 days ago I phoned to book tickets to travel to London which at the time fell in their half price sale, so for £10 I got a return from Liverpool. As promised they where at the station for collection on the day and actually getting them was ... Read the complete review

I have travelled First Class on several occasions with Virgin West Coast and XC, and only yesterday was I made aware that Euston has a First Class Lounge! It is located above Burger King, and provides an ideal opportunity for some quiet time and relaxation before a long jourrney North or to Scotland - it has excellent washrooms, shower ... So should you avoid Virgin trains like the plague, or do they offer a good service? Most of this opinion describes my experience with the half price offer that virgin had in the summer, but I also want to add my more recent experiences with them - so this is at the end. ********************** Okay so I know that ... I used to travel quite a lot via these trains and they are still the same, totally unreliable. It’s amazing that these trains have never got any better but worse in the past few years. The delays are shocking and it’s only if you have passes that you get discounts which is absurd. Lots and lots of people travel by ... Read the complete review

Every Christmas and mid year I travel to my dads house from Manchester to Edinburgh. My preferred rail network was Virgin. This was cheap and cheerful for the first year but in the last two years the company and service has gone pants in a big way. Christmas 1999 I booked my ticket asking for a forward facing return journey. ... Read the complete review

I just want to check that there aren't two train companies called Virgin, because I've read a couple of reviews that clearly aren't about the same trains I've been using. Some people seem to believe that Virgin doesn't deserve most of the stick it gets. They point out that Virgin has clean carriages, and a buffet, and has introduced a ... Read the complete review

I have just been to Yorkshire and took the train, my journey was between Burton on Trent in the Midlands and Pontefract in West Yorkshire. The bulk of my journey was on a Virgin Train (Derby-Wakefield) with a little local service either side. I ordered my tickets through thetrainline.com (see my review on that for a rundown on that ... Ok then, hands up if you sat on a Virgin Train and it was late? Hands up that it was old, dirty and the buffet closed half way through? Hands up..... you got bored had nothing to read and your walkman bateries ran out? Well my hands are still on the keyboard (and I've never seen a commuter with three hands!!) so ... Travelling to London recently, I booked on-line via thetrainline.com and the cheapest route was by Virgin trains. Now, it seems (in the public eye) that Virgin Trains ranks as about the wworst train operator in the UK but is this right? Yes. Virgin trains - and their staff -are awful. I may have been looking in the wrong ... Read the complete review

I'm not one to shy away from writing a controversial review and so I am quite happy to write about the excellent service offered by Virgin Trains. The trouble is that I do shy away from lying and so, unfortunately for them, I will have to give yet another negative review to one of Britain's biggest rail operators ... Read the complete review

A few months ago, I was going to London from Birmingham. I hadn't booked a ticket in advance and so was planning on getting a ticket on the day.. Before that day I had no idea how much it would cost, but since I used to see that you can book tickets in advance for £15.. I thought I probably will have to pay about £5-7 extra.. ... Virgin Trains provide a high quality, low cost service that is as reliable as can be expected given the circumstances. The trains are always clean, the staff courteous in their manner and in the face of the perenially disgruntled whining British public. Last year I used to travel from Reading to Birmingham International on the train to go to work. It was a tale of 2 contrasting journeys. The journey up to Birmingham on the 0733 was usually pleasant. Virgin trains can probably provide you with some of the cheapest rail tickets in the UK. But there is a price to pay. Virgin trains are almost invariably late, and often quite dirty. They go through highs and lows, but they seem to spend most of the time in the lows than in the highs! Nevertheless the trains from Virgin are rather ... Read the complete review

Right, first things first. Surely the point of public transport is to encourage people not to use their cars? To do that, you have to offer good service at affordable prices. Well this lot most certainly don't do that. The trains themselves are very noisy and it is difficult to get any rest or anything. The chairs are also very ... Read the complete review

If Virgin get the East Coast main line deal, we'll be travelling from London to Edinburgh in approximatly 3hrs!
