Is it me or does it seam that since Branston Pickle took charge of most of the railway network it has all gone down hill! It used to be only buses that were the only unreliable service but now you have to add at least half an hour on to your arrival time on any virgin train. I used to work for British rail so I know from experience that ... Read the complete review

I'm not one of those people who constantly runs down Virgin Trains. I travel long distances with them at least once a fortnight, and most often I get where I'm going more or less on time, without incident, which is what you want. I do wish that the cross country trains could be brought up to the same standards as the West Coast ... Read the complete review

In the days when I was hopelessly poor, I used to travel on the Silverlink, Northampton line, Brum/London, at least once a week, generally over a weekend. The return trip was about 4.5 hours, buffetless, bumpy old wagons, fairly grim BUT cheap (£13). Nowadays, I can occasionally lord it for the £22 Virgin train. Cuts about 1.5 ... It used to be that busses were the only unreliable service but now you have to add at least half an hour to the arrival time of any virgin train to get it about right. I have had the misfortune to travel on long distance journeys with Virgin trains on several occasions. I hope by writing this review it will serve as something of a cathartic exercise, as the memories still haunt me... Here's a jolly thing to try at home - book a return journey from London to Manchester on the virgin website ... Read the complete review

Although Virgin are one of the most pilloried train companies, I can see what they are trying to do and I think they are improving. Train fares in general are rather expensive but Virgin do do some decent discounts, and you can order your tickets online, which is good. The journeys themselves can take longer than "predicted" on ... Read the complete review

Richard Branson is a man who has done some great things with his companies. His airline is great, the music shops offer value and the financial services business really does cut through the mumbo jumbo and offer good products. So why on earth does they allow Virgin Trains to drag down the reputation of the Virgin Brand? The ... Read the complete review
