Advantages: Weighs your luggage exactly, easy to use, light, tell you the temperature
Disadvantages: None!
I've always had problems with weighing my suitcase when I go abroad. This is partly due to my unreliable bathroom scales but also because when the suitcase is on the scales it's nearly impossible to see the weight. So I would spend the journey to the airport worrying about whether my suitcase would incur excess baggage charges. My mum is even worse. She always overpacks (largely due to her instence to take 20 pairs of shoes and 3 boxes of teabags away with her). She always has to distrubute her stuff to other peoples suitcases and then still has an overweight suitcase. So I was browsing my Nans Sunday People magazine one day and saw these scales and thought they looked an ideal solution to my luggage weighing predicament. So I bought them as a little extra Mothers Day gift for my mum (with plans to borrow them myself!)
The website was listed as www.thepeople-shop.com but when you type this in it actually comes up as www.easylifegroup.com. The scales were priced at £19.99 on the website which was a little more than I thought they would be but figured they would be worth the money. The postage was around £4.00. I couldn't find anything about delivery times but thought it wouldn't take any longer than a week. However, it took around 3 weeks for them to be delivered. I was annoyed because they were delivered to me after Mothers Day so had to give them to my mum a couple of weeks late. I therefore do not recommend you get them from this site. I have since found out that people sell them new on ebay for about £10 and the delivrey time would be much quicker. There are also some that are a different make but very similar on Amazon for £12.99 or you can get these exact ones for around £15 on Amazon.
Despite the long delivery time, I was very impressed by the product itself. They are very easy to use, my mum finds them straightforward and she's a technophobe! To use them you simply turn them on by the press on a button, then press the 'unit' button to choose whether to have your luggage weighed in lbs or kgs. You then attatch the strap to your luggage then pick it up by the handle on the scales. Then just hold it for a few seconds until the scales beep and then the exact weight is registered on the screen. The weight can be left on the screen when you set down the suitcase or you can press 'reset' to start again. It's fantastic to know the exact weight of your luggage before you leave so you know if you need to get rid of anything. They require 2xAAA batteries, which are included.
They are pretty sturdy - the handle looks a bit fragile at first but is very strong and reliable. They scales can also be used for hand luggage as well as other things such as weighing parcels. They have a max weight of 44kg so don't panic and think your suitcase will be too heavy for them.
The scales are very light and quite small (exact dimesnsions are 13 x 7 x 2.5cm) so they will fit in your suitcase making it easy to weigh your luggage on the return journey. This is useful if you have a tendency to go a bit mad on the gifts and sounvenirs! They also have a great little feature that tells you the temperature in celcuis and farenheit. This is useful as it's interesting to know the temperature when abroad. It also means you can boast about how hot it was when you get home!
Overall, I highly recommend this product. It's easy to use and very useful. It saves you from the embarassment of being whacked with excess charges at the aiport and stops your poor credit card suffering any more uncessary abuse.
Summary: Really useful - just be careful where you get them from
