My niece is Hello Kitty mad, and for her birthday she got to choose what she wanted for a gift. It was her sixth Birthday, and I feel the umbrella is an appropriate size for a child of her age and height - it would probably also be around the right size for her brother who is ten - although due to the branding I'm sure he'd rather get wet... She chose a few of the pieces from this range, and due to the terrible summer we are having this seems to be getting quite a lot of use.
The umbrella has a solid handle that does not collapse to save space, and as such it is in fact very sturdy, unlike so many adult sized umbrellas. So far this umbrella has not turned inside out - which I think is probably due to the nice 'dome' shape if the umbrella, and seems to be very hard wearing.
The bottom of the handle has a cute little hooked end that can be used to hang the umbrella up with. It also makes it easy for her to use as a 'walking stick' - which seems to be a favourite game of hers... This does mean that she will normally carry it - however she can get a little vigorous in re-enacting the singing in the rain song sometimes (this is my fault as in a bid to not rot her brain I try to get her to watch anything that isn't a cartoon - when I have her at mine - we hate the days that we can't play outside).
We have had no issues with it not functioning properly - but it can be difficult to store, as it doesn't 'collapse' to handbag size, and it did not come with a separate bag to put it in to stop other things getting wet when it isn't in use. The umbrella is a little over 60 cm long when it is folded.
The umbrella is Hello Kitty's face, and has little ears, and the bottom of the handle is bright red which she loves.
I would recommend these for any children. It was a bit on the pricey side for an umbrella I felt - (£13.99 on-line) however it was well worth it as it has already lasted so much longer than any others she has owned. Definitely a good investment, and she really does adore it.
