“ Brand: Cath Kidston / Type: Toiletry bag „
A few years ago my husband bought me this Kath Kidston wash bag as a birthday present. He knows I like Kath Kidston stuff and made a really good choice for me in terms of pattern and size.
This is a very feminine looking wash bag covered in a pretty delicate flowered cluster design. The flowers are pink and blue with green leaves on a very light blue background.
This toilet bag is really easy to keep clean. It's a cotton material coated in PVC so it's a wipe clean toilet bag which is very handy. Also it means it is waterproof and doesn't soak up condensation when it's in the bathroom when you have been having a shower.
This wash bag is about 20x12x6cm so is a nice size without being too big. It is described as being a "medium sized" wash bag. What is also good about this bag is it has a side pocket, zipped up like the opening to the main section where I keep scissors and tweezers. Both zips have a toggle thing on with the Kath Kidston logo on.
The wash bag also has a mini handle at one end which is helpful if I go away in my parents caravan as when I go to the toilet black for a shower I can hand it from the hook on the door. Apart from this, the bag is a very basic but practical design.
I think these wash bags cost £12, although I haven't seen this exact design in Kath Kidston recently, I think they may have discontinued this exact design. I love this toilet bag and after two and half years is still going strong, so it's a good quality bag.
I always end up with at least one Cath Kidston goodie from someone at Christmas time. I am very much a pattern lover especially as surface design is a career I would love to go into. I was pleasantly surprised when I unwrapped this from my auntie who is exactly like me just older! She knew I needed a new wash bag as I stay away from home a lot and have nothing to carry my toiletries around in.
The medium wash bag costs £12 and can be brought from the Cath Kidston website or from other sites such as eBay and Amazon or department stores. I think its quite a reasonable price for the brand and average pricing for the size and product.
Cath Kidston is one of the most well known designers because of her gorgeous prints. Her first design was floral and her first item for sale with a pattern was an ironing board cover. Since then she has come a very long way and is my idol in the surface designing world. I have done quite a bit of research into her for college work so ask me if you would like more information.
When it comes to sizing, it is quite a big size compared to what I would expect from 'medium'. On the website the dimensions are stated as being 21x12x6cm. This means you can fit just enough for a weekend away. I usually have a smaller sized shampoo and conditioner, small deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc. In honestly, regular sized things might fit but it would be a squeeze and I'm worried about breaking my bag.
The material is PVC due to the contents being wet after use. For example your toothbrush or shampoo. The outer material is cotton covered PVC and it is all 100% so no other materials are used. To clean the bag you simply need to wipe it with a damp cloth. I would try washing mine in the machine but I am not sure if it will work without some form of damage.
The wash bag can be brought in a few different patterns, this one is known as the Spray Flowers pattern. The background is actually baby blue (the image looks like it is white) and there are bunches of flowers all over it. I like the fact the material makes the design seem almost faded, if it was too vivid in colour I might be a little put off it. I like the fact it is similar to her first ever designs as I am not a great fan of her more retro patterns like the stars and spots. It is traditional and helps to add a little vintage, feminine edge to my travelling. It definitely is aimed to be used by women, I don't really think men would want to be seen with one of these - maybe in a different style though.
The bag has a handle on the side which I use to hang it on one of the hooks on my bathroom door (or on a shower caddy at my grandparents house when I go up. The zip around the bag goes most of the way around so you can easily get into the bag without fussing. The zips all have a toggle with Cath Kidston's name logo printed on them. There is a side pocket too which I don't really have a use for because it doesn't really stretch much to put anything in - for now it holds hair ties and clips. There is also a netted pocket and the main compartment so you can split your toiletries up. It is quite spacious but as I previously mentioned, be warned with the size of everything you are taking.
I quite like how the bag is so waterproof as when it is in a suitcase or other bag with wet bottles inside, it does not leak or cause damp on anything else. It is also quite sturdy and doesn't break easily showing how good the quality is. Cath Kidston always manages to outdo expectations and I think it is by far the best brand for well made items.
The bag has so far lasted me almost a year and it is still going strong despite many uses. Wiping it clean has been no problem and the zips are still working as new and haven't gone stiff or flimsy at all.
Another welcome Christmas present came in the form of a new wash bag, not the most exciting of gifts but very practical and I did in fact need a new one for my forthcoming holidays. It was a well chosen and thought out present.
The Cath Kidston range is both modern and classic print designs in order to appeal to the largest audience. I have to admit to liking her floral designs more than some of the newer prints such as the cowboy design and spots, especially on items I use frequently like handbags and wash bags alike. The floral patterns seem to go really well with casual outfits and plainer items of clothing.
This wash bag pattern is known as the 'Spray Flowers' design, it is a pale blue or baby blue background colour with densely packed bunches of flowers on top. The flower groups are slightly different sizes and colours, having greens, pinks, yellow and white. It is a kind of faded effect with an almost blurry result rather than some of her straight edge and sharp patterns. I would describe this design as soft and classic; it is perfect for a ladies wash bag.
So the bag itself is larger than you would first think, it comes in a clear plastic bag and is flattened so you cannot really tell the dimensions. Mine was also wrapped in Cath Kidston tissue paper which is such lovely attention to detail. In total the bags dimensions are 30cm x 18cm x 10cm, which makes it great for a holiday wash bag but perhaps too big for a business trip or short weekend break. I haven't used mine yet as I haven't been away anywhere but will be packing it full out on its first outing in a couple of weeks.
On the outside of the bag there is a full length zip pocket which gives ¾ of the height of the bag as an easy access pocket. The zip is quite chunky and has a branded Cath Kidston zip tag attached in durable plastic. The top of the bag is where you access the inside, again with a branded tag and thick white zip. Inside the bag is three separated areas, two of which are on the outer sides of the case and quite thin so you can't fit too much in them. One of these is netted material so you can see what you have stored in there easily. The opposite compartment is thin plastic with another Cath Kidston branded label in, in case you didn't already know! The rest of the bag is open and very spacious for all your portable bathroom condiments.
All the inside of this wash bag is waterproof, which is obviously a necessity with this sort of item. Both the outside and inside are wipe clean so any spillages are easily sorted out. It is a good quality product and appears to be very hardwearing. My only gripe is that it is very large, but obviously being flexible doesn't mean that it will take up too much space if you don't fill it too full.
This retails at £18 which is quite pricey but will be worth it in the long run, available in Cath Kidston stores, online and department stores.
I have become really fond of Cath Kidston over recent months. Therefore, when my Mum said she wouldnt mind an iPhone case for her birthday me and my sister went on the site and found lots to buy both for Mum and ourselves!
*Who is Cath Kidston?*
Cath Kidston is a designer who opened her first shop in London in 1993. She initially began by selling vintage fabric and wallpapers which she does still sell but since then she has branched out creating many different things such as bags, clothes and many other accessories all in her own prints. Her most famous print is probably Spray Flowers or Rosali which I seem to see more and more each day!
There are currently 38 Cath Kidston shops in the UK but for those of you that dont have one near you, items can be bought directly from the website www.cathkidston.co.uk
*Price and Availability*
I bought the exact wash bag shown above from the Cath Kidston website. Its RRP is £18.00 but I bought it for £12.00 in the sale. After just having a quick look online it seems as though this particular edition has sold out but there are similar ones available for similar prices.
*The Wash Bag*
The bag is a really good size, it is around 25cm long and around 15cm wide, therefore there is plenty of room if you are taking it on a week away. The exterior of the bag is made from oil cloth which is wipe clean which I think it brilliant for the bathroom as any splashes can just be wiped away with no damage done.
The design on the bag is very pretty. There is a white background with small clusters of predominantly pink flowers. The design is very shabby chic and very girly.
The bag does up with a white zip. The zip has Cath Kidston branding on it which is nice. Inside, the bag is lined with white wipe clean material which is great as spillages can just be mopped up. There are two pockets either side of the bag, one is mesh and one is solid white with Cath Kidston branding. These are a great size and help to seperate up your belongings. The solid white one is great for things you would rather keep private. There is also a zip pocket on the outside of the bag. This is also a great size and has the Cath Kidston branding on the zip. There is a small carry handle on one end of the bag which helps carry it more easily.
*What I think*
I really like this wash bag. I've had numerous wash bags in the past but this one is definitely a firm favourite of mine. I love the pattern as its stylish, very 'of the moment' and girly.
I think its great that the entire bag is wipe clean as a wash bag is forever experiencing spillages whether it is water, make up or creams and lotions and this material means after a quick wipe it is good as new again. I've thrown away numerous wash bags before because I've spilled something on them and this is no longer a problem.
The wash bag is a great size and I love the fact there are so many large pockets to help seperate things and also keep things safe. I love the zips, the branding on them looks good and the addition of a zip means nothing ever falls out.
I think this wash bag will last for a long time to come. It would make a lovely gift for mothers day too, recommended.
