A handy device - weigh you suitcase to avoid excess baggage charges

No More Excess! Advanced Digital Luggage Scale

Touch wood I have never been charged for excess baggage, but as the old saying goes, never say never. I'm alright on the way out, it's the way back, my suitcase groans under the weight, what can I say I'm a typical shopper.

      Digital Scale
I received this for Christmas, so not 100% on the price, but after doing some peeping on Amazon, I noticed there around £8, which compared to the possibility of being charged £10+ per excess kilo, these come into a life of their own. My other half brought me these, is he trying to tell me something!

      The Scales
The scales came boxed, and once opened, I was pleased at the scales they look nice, and are very easy to handle. The scales have the main body which measures 15cm x 7cm x 2cm, and this is a comfortable size to handle. The body of the box is plastic, and this has an inbuilt LED screen. The top of the scales has the holding handle, and this is retractable, and the bottom of the unit has the longer strap this is where you attach your luggage to get the dreaded result.

      Usage
The unit is really easy to use, as once you have attached the handle, which I find easier than the fishing hook style of the cheaper models. You lift the scales by the top handle allowing your suitcase to be off the floor, once it has left the floor this then concludes the weighing process, so you let the case go back to the ground, the weight of the suitcase is then displayed. This is in kg, and the information supplied says it is accurate within 50grams, You can switch the display to Lbs and ounces, which ever you find easier.

      Weight
The weight of the device is 181grams, so is really lightweight and can easily be slipped into hand luggage,

      Extras
The product is run by batteries, and these are included with the purchase, and there is a 12 month guarantee

      Would I highly recommend
I would highly recommend these scales, as they are literally worth their weight in gold, it's something we take for granted that our suitcase is within the limit, I have spoken to people before that have been charged excess baggage.

      Luggage Allowance
The thing is there is no standard luggage allowance, as some airlines have different limits, in general airlines won't take suitcases that are over 23kg. Some travel companies they have a standard allowance of 15kg, although there is the option to pre-book extra luggage, but the weight of the suitcases can have a knock-on effect, I know my main suitcase weights 5kg, and that is a soft sided case. The set my daughter uses, she has a 26in hard sided case that weighs 6kg, and her matching trolley case weighs 3kg. These scales will be getting plenty of use in the near future. I would say invest in a pair of scales.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        A great investment!

When I go on holiday I like to have a number of different pairs of shoes with me, not to mention a variety of outfits and plenty of make up for every eventuality! Travelling back from holiday my already full to bursting case is usually harbouring some local liquor and a number of souvenirs. I have had some embarrassing moments, where at the check in desk I've had to re-jiggle my bags; moving things from hand luggage to my friends bags and back again. All this hassle just to make the scales balance!
Before I went to Las Vegas (Knowing full well that I would want to bring quite a lot of purchases back) I bought the "No more excess! The Advanced Digital Luggage Scale." I bought it for £9.99, which for something I will only use a few times a year is quite a lot, however the amount of money it would save in excess baggage fines makes it an absolute bargain! They usually charge around £15.00 for every extra kilo over your baggage allowance!

        The product
The main body of the scales measure 15 x 7 x 2 cm. This is the plastic box with the LED screen in. On the top of this is the retractable handle to hold and at the bottom is the long strap to attach to your bag. The product only weighs 181g so it doesn't take up the valuable room in your case.
It is extremely easy to use. All you have to do is fasten the strap around the bag and then lift the scales up in order to lift the bag off the floor. This strap is much safer than some other devices I have seen, that seem to have a sort of butchers hook at the end to attach your bags to! As soon as the bag leaves the floor, set the bag back down and then read the screen. This is great as it means you don't have to stand there trying to keep hold of the bags in the air while the machine is calculating. You can change the units to either lbs or kg and the display of the LED large blue back lit screen is very easy to read. It can weigh items up to 40kg and is accurate to within 50g!
The scales come with batteries so you are ready to go as soon as you open the box, a 12 month warranty and an easy to follow user manual.

        Overall
This is great value for money. It is a lot smaller than other scales on the market and seems the most accurate. I'm glad I purchased it! Money well spent!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

All in all this product is a great find which could save you a lot of money in the long run.

I am currently on my year abroad in Germany and to travel back to the UK I use Easyjet/Ryanair. The trouble is I am only here for a year so it is not worth buying a traditional set of scales, as I would just have to get rid of them at the end of the year.

Browsing the internet before Christmas I found these electronic luggage scales made by No-More-Excess for £14.99 - I am sure they can now be purchased for a lower price.

After opening the box I was very impressed at the size of the product which fits perfectly in my suitcase without taking up much space. The scales can weigh anything up to a weight of 40kg and include a very useful handle at the top which can be used to suspend the scales.

What is more the product includes batteries and a limited 12 month guarantee - Limited meaning that "no damage is covered caused by mis-use if the device".

Weighing is very simple, simply turn the scales on and press the tare button, attach the strap to your bag and lift off the ground/suspend from something.

The units can also be changed which is very useful for those people that are not used to using kilograms. I particularly like the attractive dark blue back light on this product which makes viewing on the display very easy even at night.

Have you packed too many presents for your return from your holiday destination? This product will let you know immediately saving you those ridiculous extra baggage charges!
