Advantages: Convenient

Disadvantages: they don't always make good checks for the best deals

I often book trips through American Express travel services as it's quick and easy. You can also order foreign currency and/or travellers cheques at the same time and they'll change it back for me if I have any left (not a service i use very often may I add). They are always contactable incase you want to make last minute alterations to your arrangements, even when you already away. If it's after office hours of your local branch, there is a 24 hour number you can call. I've always found the telephone operators very helpful in answering my queries or changing my flights or hotel booking at last minute.

They store your profile on file so they already know my prefered airlines, hotels, what benefit cards I have, whether I want a window or aisle seat etc. This is very useful especially if your running late to the airport as you don't have to worry about getting sat inbetween 2 business men with broadsheet newspapers!

Also with the Amex point scheme (you get points whenever you spend money on your card) you can exchange the points for flights, hotels, car hire etc. Which can make nice saving on your next holiday. You can also transfer your amex points to some airlines benefit cards, so you get points from amex for paying for the flight and airmiles from the airline for flying with them which you can join together.

Although I am generally happy with their service as it is so convenient, I have found that I haven't always got the cheapest deals and one time they hired a car for me with a dealer who didn't rent cars to under 25's! I know they had booked this dealer for me before in Europe but they had a different age limit in the US, now I would have probably made the same mistake myself which is why I had Amex do the booking and being a US company you would expect them to know these things.
