Welcome to Turkey
Member Name: grahamt
Advantages: Good service ; excellent holidays
Disadvantages: Nothing of any significance
Many years ago we had a family holiday in Turkey, in the resort of Kusadasi. We greatly enjoyed it and, when there, saw some famous historical sites such as Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. That was the last time, until last year. No particular reason why we didn't go back. We greatly enjoyed our holiday but the World is a big place and there is so much to see.
Last year we spent a week in Kalkan. We had found the holiday via Voyage Prive and, indeed, the holiday was booked through them. Voyage Prive is not itself a travel company: it is holiday bargain presenter. The holiday itself was organised by Anatolian Sky. I had not previously heard of this company.
Anatolian Sky specialises in holidays to the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly those of the predominantly Muslim world: Turkey; Northern Cyprus; and Egypt. Its website lists various holidays, including gulet cruises around the coast of Turkey.
Our holiday to Kalkan started with our arrival at Dalaman Airport, where we were greeted and directed to our coach by English speaking representative. It appears that Anatolian Sky has recruited local British ex-pats who have chosen to live in and marry into the local Turkish community, to assist British visitors to the local resorts.
Our holiday went smoothly and all-in-all we felt that we had had good value and an enjoyable break. I have reviewed the resort and the hotel at which we stayed, here on Dooyoo. On the strength of that holiday we agreed that we would have no qualms about booking directly with Anatolian Sky for any future holiday in the region.
So, this year we decided to once again to spend our autumn break in Turkey but this time would make it a two week break rather than a single week. We decided to opt for a gulet cruise for the first week and a hotel based week to follow. Our first port-of-call for something suitable was the Anatolian Sky website.
The website is well designed and clear and we soon found the individual holidays that we wanted but what we couldn't find was a means of booking them both as a single two-centre holiday. This was probably the only failing of the booking process. It was necessary to call them on the number quoted on the website.
We explained our problem and the agents at Anatolian Sky resolved the issue without any problem at all and even took on board our need for an additional transfer between the gulet, moored in Marmaris harbour at the end of the cruise and our hotel for the second week, in Turunc. They also agreed to arrange to hold on to one of our pieces of luggage for the second week, to save us having to take it on board for the duration of the cruise.
I was pleased to see that Anatolian Sky still uses Monarch as its charter partner. We feel that they are one of the better services, certainly when compared with the likes of Thomas Cook.
The entire holiday for the two of us, a week full-board on the gulet cruise and the week at the hotel in Turunc, B&B, cost £2,266.
As before the holiday went smoothly with all transfers taking place as planned and the second suitcase being already in the taxi that met us for the transfer to Turunc. Really, the only thing that went wrong was the "Meet & Greet" at the hotel on the second week, when the local rep didn't turn up at the appointed time. She explained that there had been a problem at the airport with the in-coming flight and that she had phoned the hotel to leave a message that she would be delayed. If that is so then the hotel seemingly made no effort to pass the message on.
However, other than this, we have no issues with the service provided by Anatolian Sky and would happily use them again. We do rather fancy a Nile Cruise and Anatolian Sky organises these as one of its offerings. See you at Luxor?
Summary: A travel agent providing good service and great holdays in the Eastern Mediterranean
