Advantages: Courtesy and cheerfulness, from check in to arrival, plus improving facilities and offers

Disadvantages: Not yet outstanding , against competitors

I have travelled with BA a few times on long haul flights and on holidays to China and Bermuda. Originally the flights didn't rival Virgin as they had no seat back TVs, food was pretty ropey and the service wasn't exciting.

Perhaps BA have trained their staff as this has improved with courtesy and helpfulness top on the list. Seats seem to be a little bit more spaced out than Virgin so I could stretch my legs. They still need to make more water available to air passengers on long haul flights as dehydration is common on 12-14 hour flights and having to ask for a puny half-glassful every hour is a pain in the neck.

In the main, food seems to have improved; out goes the smelly spicy goo served in metal trays to be replaced by chicken and vegetables. (Tandooris on long haul flights are deadly!) Also, drinks are free on long haul so if you want to treat yourself to a whisky or gin, it's no trouble.

At the airport in China, BA were offering a £99 upgrade to Business Class.. I hope they do this in other locations as it really is a treat if you're tired and weary and just want to get home in comfort.

Fianlly, who can fail to admire a BA Stewardess who can catch a heavy case falling from the overhead locker during turbulence, while balance on those high heel court shoes? Not a hair out of place and a smile on the face! I couldn't do it ! But I do admire their style.
