Advantages: Great base for places to go off park

Disadvantages: dirty, older caravans and entertainment complex is too small for the size of park.

Just come back from an 8 night holiday in Burnham (Haven) holiday village.

We had a good time because we spent most of the time out of the caravan and park. However after having 3 holidays in the past with Haven this one did not live up to our past experiences.

We paid for a Superior Plus caravan but it definitely was not superior or plus! It smelled, the carpets were stained and dirty (I have 3 children, 1 of whom is just crawling), the curtains in all rooms were moldy, the carpet in the lounge was frayed and had actually come away from the floor, the fridge was broken, the bathroom was moldy, pots and pans were heavily stained and some of the crockery was broken.

The caravan park itself was nice, the lakes being the best feature. However it is quite a big park and the onsite facilities did not match it. I had a double buggy which I struggled to get round the entertainment complex. The kids entertainment wasn't new and my eldest son remembered watching one of the shows a previous year. The pool changing facilities were dirty and small, definitely not catering for small babies as there were only 2 family changing rooms and only 1 of those had a baby changer. When we did get in the pool we were told to get out after only 30 minutes! The other thing missing is an indoor children's soft play area which they had at the 3 other Haven sites we have been to. Boo!

The restaurant food was really overpriced and of poor quality. There is a nice pub called the Lighthouse just outside the park which I would recommend. Or Asda is just up the road if you don't mind cooking!

The beach and the sea (estuary) were horrible at Burnham, Berrow and Brean. Really dirty and smelly. The water only just passes the legal limit for fecal matter, nice. We went to Weston-Super-Mare for a day and the beach was slightly better. Although I think they had brought in a load of the sand for the sand sculpting festival.

Overall go there for the scenery around Somerset. Cheddar Gorge is lovely. Plus there are loads of places to take kids. Use the park as a base but eat out in pubs or fast food places and cook in the caravan or BBQ.

One big thing to watch is that you don't get overcharged in the park restaurant and bars as we repeatedly got charged for stuff we didn't have. If you don't notice it all adds up.

Better parks are in Weymouth and the beach and sea are nice there.

Summary: Don't expect too much
