Advantages: Very well organised., Very friendly., Plenty to do.
Disadvantages: None.
We have been to two holiday parks owned by British Holidays and on both occasions we have had very pleasant holidays. This opinion gives our experience of the Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Village in Somerset. The booking procedure for our holiday was very efficient and on our arrival a member of the staff met us at the gate showing us where to park and answered a few of our initial questions. The check-in process was very well organised and we were soon on our way to our caravan. The caravan was very clean with everything we could want. There were three bedrooms (two twin and one double) and two toilets (one with a shower). We have never stayed in a caravan before with two toilets. All of the usual kitchen equipment was there, including a full cooker/oven, a fridge, kettle, toaster plus there was also a microwave oven. The caravan was very comfortable with plenty of space and a colour television. This whole site seemed much more pleasant than the site we had stayed at in Scotland and in general it seemed more efficient and very well run. The site had a collection of facilities including an indoor and two outdoor swimming pools, a solarium, spa pool, tennis courts, a bowling green, a children’s adventure playground, a bike hire centre, pool, table tennis, a pitch and putt course, coarse fishing lakes and a large screen satellite TV. There are also organised activities with teen activity workshops and the Bradley Bear Kids Club for younger visitors. There are three bars on the site. The Showbar is an enormous room where there is entertainment every night. As with most family club rooms a lot of the entertainment is aimed at the children, including competitions, talent shows, party dances and the early evening performers. Later in the evening there was the resident performers and also shows put on by the site entertainment staff. Some of this was of mixed quality, but overall it wasn’t too bad. The J
esters Entertinment Room is a children free zone, as no children under 14 are allowed in here after 6.00pm. The Oasis café/bar has the large TV satellite screen and pool table. Also in this bar you can get meals which look very pleasant and are reasonably priced. This bar also overlooks the swimming pool area. These bars are all in the Funworks building which has a large amusement arcade at the front of it. There is also a small supermarket on the site, plus a launderette and a fish and chip shop. The fish and chip shop also sells a variety of other “fast” food including burgers and very pleasant pizzas. There is also a hire shop where a whole selection of items can be hired during your stay. Although there are about 600 caravans on the site it has the appeal of a small site as the caravans are split up into small groups and well landscaped with trees and bushes. There was a feeling of plenty of space around the whole site with the caravans being well spaced apart. There are parking areas close to each caravan and plenty of gardens around the site. There is also a large pond with ducks and swans on it, as well as two large coarse fishing lakes. There is a separate area for touring caravans and tents with its own toilet/shower block. The pedestrian entrance/exit from the site is straight onto the sea front promenade and the enormous beach of Burnham. It is also just a five minute walk from the town centre. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and they all seemed to make that extra bit of effort to ensure that everybody was happy with their holiday. We were very happy with our stay at Burnham and found it a very well organised, friendly and well laid out site. I would certainly recommend this site to anyone else for family holidays.

- 29/11/01 Useful op, though I doubt anyone will be tempted to go there at this time of year. Maybe next year :-) |
