Advantages: Local stores nationwide, 0% payment scheme, lots of destinations
Disadvantages: Money hungry manager desperate for booking bonuses - probably!
After a particularly wet and dreary day in September 2008 my husband decided that enough was enough and we were going to get abroad for a break in 2009, 'lets go book it and have something to look forward to.'
Having been hoping for this statement for most of 2008 I already had browsed the holiday brochures and had Cyprus in mind.
The long and the short of the service was that the manager who was dealing with us tried to sell us the holiday we had picked for 2800 pounds for the five of us, 2 adults and 3 children. After 1.5 hours of "Don't get done get Dom' treatment from my husband, the manager finally very un happily dropped the price to 2500 pounds and warned us that that was 'trade price' and she wasn't making more than 5 pounds profit on selling us the holiday at that price blah blah blah.
We went for a coffee to 'discuss it' - popped to the local independent travel agents round the corner who gave us the first price they had - identical holiday to the one in first choice for 2200!!! Thats less than 300 pounds compared to first choice!!
You can imagine my husbands pleasure at telling the manager upon our return to first choice and due to their 'price matching' policy she had to give it to us at that price.
Just goes to show how an afternoons shopping can save you a fortune!
The holiday is booked for October 2009 and we have until August 2009 to settle the bill at 0% interest, We had a low deposit of 100 quid for the family to secure the booking and although I don't know if this offer still exists I'm sure there would be some sort of low deposit to encourage people to book in the curent economical climate.
Summary: All this bantering deserves a holiday! A first choice holiday!

- 22/04/09 That does seem very expensive for Cyprus even at £2,200. I'm going next week for a week which cost £450 for 2 adults for flight and acccommodation which I booked online through Expedia. I prefer not to use any of these booking agents as they seem to be extortionate compared to shopping around on the internet. I've even read independent online reviews of the hotel we're staying at (written over several years) to make sure we're not staying in a dive... :) |

- 10/03/09 I am not sure you can really review a travel agent before actually going on the holiday. The booking process is surely only one aspect of the service? |
