Advantages: within easy reach of blackpool

Disadvantages: poor choice of nightlife

I have just come back from Marton Mere 3 miles from Blackpool and minutes from the M55.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom caravan. Its years since I've been in one and I'm quite impressed. Its what they describe a 'superior plus'. It came with the beds already made up in this 1 double and 2 very tiny singles. A warning though, the single beds are smaller than your regular size single. There's a adequate open plan living space. The kitchen is well equiped the dining table is great for the four of us. This however is a eight person caravan and would feel very claustraphobic with 8 people. Theres a separate shower which i have to say always has a ready supply of hot water and is quite powerful. The toilet and sink is in another room. The space in the caravan has been more allocated to the living areas.

Now then... if you are hard of hearing this place is perfect for you. We have never been in the show bar. The first night we got there we went in the music is on at full blast the kids started to cry. If you want a conversation forget it. The show bar always seems empty so I don't think the entertainment is that cracking on a night. You can get a taxi into Blackpool centre they charge a fixed fee of £8.50 before midnight and £9.50 after. Alternatively you could go into the on site arcade machines or there's the cafe bar which is far quieter and where the majority of guests seem to go. There's plenty of seating inside and also outside on the terrace. The ladies toilets are appalling most are out of order and the dryers don't work. At least the few that are working are clean.

During the day the children are well catered for with trampolines (£1.50), Orbitors (£1.50), Crazy golf (£1.50). There are free activities too. The swimming pool, childrens playground and splash zone (weather permitting).

The onsite bars charge the usual pub prices for the drinks the food onsite is expensive, as is the onsite supermarket. Within a short car journey theres a Tesco supercentre and Asda open 24 hours and a Morrisons which shuts at 10pm.

Other facilites include a fish and chip takeaway & launderette. There is also a hopper bus which stops at the park every 1/2 hour and goes from tourist hot spot to another. Its goes to the tower, pleasure beach, town centre, zoo, promenade among others. Parking in Blackpool fairly close to the action is expensive.

This caravan park is not the best I've been to. Its ok i suppose. I wouldn't come back. Although a good bargain was had its was £260 for 7 nights in June (during term time). The downside was check in wasn't until 4.30pm and on day of departure 10.00am. The site were strict over this. Travel time I live in Leeds and hit no delays around Manchester it only took 1hr 10 mins.

Summary: ok if you've got young children and you'd prefer an early night

Wouldn't be idea of a fun holiday I'm afraid! It would be good if you added how much the holiday cost and how to get there. Ann
