Camping at Haven. (Haven Holidays in general)
Member Name: imNOTokay
Advantages: A cheaper alternative to caravaning, but still over priced Disadvantages: You cant use a gazebo at this site. We have just come back from a week camping at Golden Sands Malethorpe,at a cost of £192.00 for 5 adults and £42 for 2 Jack Russells. We arrived early afternoon, i always find with Haven that as a camper you are sent right to the bottom end of the site, right away from all the attractions, this doesn't bother us as we are able to walk long distances, but if you are not able to, at this site it may be a problem, because it is that big it is a good 15 mins walk even to go swimming. The camp site is flat enough, there is drinking water available from taps behind blue walls, there are 3 sinks in the washing up area which are next to the toilet block, inside the toilet block there is about 5 toilets that are cleaned between the hours of 9 am and 4pm after this it is the following day before the toilets are cleaned again. Also all the toilet cleaners are male. Make sure that at night you take your own loo roll with you as it soon runs out. The showers, well what can i say, they are the old push button types were you have to push them every 30 seconds to keep the water flowing, the actual cubical smells of stagnent water, not very plesant and the water comes out so hot i couldnt put my head under to wash my hair, the water then keeps changing temperature, from hot to very very hot, depending on how many other people are using the showers at the same time. There is an hairdryer provided at a cost of 20p, dont bother using it, i have very short hair and my 20p didnt even dry the top, i used the hand dryer in the end although there are signs above them saying do not use these dryers to dry your hair, it would off easily cost me £1 to keep feeding the dryer. There are also no power points in any of the toilets. The site itself was ok, it rained heavily one night and the path round to the main entertainment block was flooded, the swimming pool was a big disapointment, nothing like it shows in the pictures, there were that many people in the pool you couldnt swim, the life guards just sat there as people not just children but very big adults jumped in from the side, the floor of the pool was very slippery in the shallow end and the tiles very uneven in the deeper end. The outside pool was open but as you can imagine in this country even if you heat the water it was cold, the water slides are not open on Friday and Monday as these are the 2 main change over days. As we took the dogs with us i cant comment on the style of entertainment that was put on as we did not use this part of the site at all. As for Mablethorpe itself well the beaches are breath taking, miles and miles of beautiful golden sands, which as long as you are a responsible dog owner and clean up after them, the dogs can go on the beach which ours loved. Skegness is about 20 miles away and if you enjoy the more busy seaside place this is well worth going too. I dont think we will go back to Haven again but we will visit the area again we will just find a cheaper alternative as you are paying for things you probably wont use, especially if you take the dog. Summary: Wont be going back, if your camping there are plenty of cheaper alternatives. |
