I just thought I would give some feed back on my recent experience with booking with the holiday place.
I booked a wonderful holiday to St Lucia, which was my first time to the island, and I spoke to a girl called Charmaine who suggested the right hotel for me. She was spot on and I had a wonderful time at the coconut bay, in fact I am even thinking of going back next year! I must say that I was overly impressed with the services of the Holiday place , It was my first time booking with an internet company so I was a bit hesitant but the holiday place made this so easy for me and their services were just exceptional. I am in the process of also arranging a holiday to Dubai for later on this year. X
Best regards from a very happy girl!
I booked with The Holiday Place last year and had a great holiday experience from beginning to end; I received excellent service when I first rang and I had no trouble whatsoever at any point - I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them! I went to the Caribbean and even though I hadn't heard of the hotel I eventually stayed in before, it proved to be just what I needed - it was nothing overly fancy but the location was fantastic, just a minute or so from the (glorious) beach and a short cab ride away from the town. The cab fares weren't too bad and the lady I spoke to throughout the booking process even looked them up for me so I had an idea of what to put aside - honestly speaking, if I am lucky enough to go away again this year or next, I will certainly give them a call.
Thoroughly disappointed with The Holiday Place following a recent trip to Cuba.
I travelled with 3 of my friends (2 lawyers and 1 doctor).
They charged us a huge amount of money for what was described as the 'trip of a lifetime' and I can confirm it was far from it!
They changed coach transfers times without informing us resulting in us missing the coach (which was a 6 hour journey), and having to pay for taxis out of our own pockets to chase after the coach. Promised us reimbursement but failed to pay this within a reasonable time scale despite our numerous complaints and chasing.
They recommended hotels which I can only describe as appalling. I'm aware Cuban standards are much lower than UK ones, but still, as an experienced agency they should be honest and realistic.
We paid for various upgrades to ensure our holiday was as luxurious as possible, but these were not available upon arrival and some never actioned throughout the whole holiday. So watch out when they charge you more for things you'll never receive!
Even after various written complaints we have received no compensation or even an apology.
Disgraceful service. Will never book with them again.
My husband got an email from Travelzoo yesterday advertising a 7 night Jordan Discovery Tour for £599 through The Holiday Place. He immediately rang The Holiday Place and they confirmed that these tours, using easyjet charter flights had only just been released. They emailed my husband at 15:00 to quote £599 per person for a 24 November departure. Naturally my husband wanted to discuss it with me before booking but by the time I got home it was too late to ring and confirm. At 9:00 this morning we rang to book and were told that the price had gone up to £649 per person and this was down to easyjet putting their prices up. We weren't too happy and wanted to discuss this with the person who quoted £599 yesterday, but he wasn't in until 12:00. When we called at 12:00 he said the price had now gone up to £699 per person, an increase of 17% in less than 21 hours. The Travelzoo site is still saying £599. This seems like sharp practice to me, akin to the pressure selling techniques used by dodgy companies. It also doesn't seem to square with the chartered flight or package holiday description. I'm sure that if you book a holiday it would probably be fine but I'm not impressed by their sales techniques and won't use them again.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE NIKITA!! RUDE AND DISMISSIVE- TRANSFERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED BOTH WAYS AND WE GOT LANDED WITH £100 ONE WAY TRANSFER DUE TO YOUR REPS MISTAKE... WHAT HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT?! OBVIOUSLY WE WERE NOT BELIEVED AND NO COURTESY CONTRIBUTION WAS MADE BY THIS COMPANY AS IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THEIR REP HAD MADE AN ERROR... I SUPPOSE IF YOU THINK THAT YOUR HOLIDAYS WILL ALWYS GO PLAIN SAILING THEN GO AHEAD BUT AS WE ALL KNOW THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE!! THEY HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEIR MISTAKES ARE ULTIMATELY DOWN TO YOU AS YOU HAVE BOOKED WITH THEM..... WE CERTAINLY HAVE NOT BOOKED WITH THEM AGAIN AFTER THE WAY THEY HANDLED THIS!!!!
We booked our honeymoon to Cuba with the Holiday Place and I admit that I was a little nervous as I had not heard of the company. We flew out of London with Virgin and stayed 3 nights in Havana at the Parque Central hotel. A Holiday Place rep met us at the airport, gave us details of our welcome meeting the following morning and helped us into a taxi (we booked private transfers). The hotel was fabulous and THP had informed them that it was our honeymoon so we were treated to a bottle of champagne in our room. The welcome meeting the next day was really informative and the rep was excellent. We booked 2 tours, both of which were excellent. The rep went out of her way to answer any questions we and other travellers had. At all times during our holiday, it was clear when and where we would be collected and the transfers were quick and efficient. We followed her restaurant recommendation to a nearby place and found it to be excellent.
We flew to Holguin with Aero Caribbean. The flight was perfectly fine although on the way back the plane was delayed due to the Pope's visit and also stopped of in Santiago de Cuba. Inexplicably, all passengers had to disembark with hand luggage, go into the airport and then reboard! Neither of these issues were anything to do with THP and our rep did warn us that this might happen.
We then spent 10 nights at the Paradisus Rio de Oro and again our rep was fabulous. We mentioned in passing that we liked wildlife and bird watching and she offered to arrange a morning for us with a local guide who was a friend. We were a little unsure of what to expect but we had a fantastic morning with the guide who was clearly a local expert. She also gave me flowers and made sure that we received lots of honeymoon treats from the hotel. Because we travelled with THP, we received a huge discount at the spa which was fabulous!!
Overall, our honeymoon was wonderful and THP took good care of us. The holiday was well organised with clear information. We met 2 couples travelling with Virgin Holidays who had paid significantly more for their trip and were not met at the airport and received poor information about their trip.
I would highly recommend The Holiday Place - our honeymoon was fabulous and very well organised. For the price we paid, I expected the basics to be taken care of but we actually felt like VIP's.
My wife and I went to the Heritage Awali hotel in Mauritius. THP gave us the best deal anywhere and the best flight times and all went smoothly however the rep on arrival in the hotel (not one of the hotel staff but part of THP reps) could not manage to see us and despite our attempts to meet her (Huguette) did not bother. We had to book our excursions via the hotel and other reps. Had no problems so cannot comment furter on THP.
I booked what I thought was a bargain holiday to Cuba. The hotel club amigo was delapidated and the wall in our room was covered in damp. They use cubana airlines for internal flight who sub contract to aero Caribbean. Aero caribbean took off twice in a plane that they knew was unsafe and had to emergency land twice. The holiday place representative finally turned up approx 4 hours later after us being shipped to a holding hotel. Having complained to the holiday place they advised i would get a reply within 28 days. It has been 6 weeks so I called and spoke to nikita who is the customer service supervisor. She was rude, unhelpful and refused to esculate my complaint. She also didn't seem to appreciate that I had nearly died in the fiasco! I am in the process of gathering info to take the company to a small claims court. Nikita also refused to put in writing exactly what the company had done to investigate.
It's obvious that this company can only provide cut price holidays by cutting corners and not providing any service should you have a problem.
We've used the Holiday Place twice (both for 13-night 2-resort holidays in Cuba), but won't be doing so again. The first year, everything was fine - everything done by the company and by the various service providers went like clockwork. We would (and have) recommended them to friends. The second year, the paperwork etc was dealt with efficiently at the start, but then we experienced a range of problems with flights, hotels, excursions... the main (but not the only) issue being that we ended up getting only 11 of our 13 nights in the hotels that we had booked, due to problems with the airline that they choose to use. When we brought these problems (in polite detail) to the company's attention, we were basically told that we should have expected disruption and that they had no interest in making amends. Very disappointing attitude - made to feel like ungrateful pests rather than valued customers.
I recently had the hard sell from this company and booked a holiday. However on researching the resort I decided to cancel it within 12 hours. Under the Distance Selling Regs You have 7 days to cancel. I wrote and confirmed this. However the company are refusing to refund my deposit of £400. At NO TIME did they follow the regulations and read to me the terms and conditions as they are legally obliged to when you book. They do not even send you the booking conditions etc. In small letters it tells you to look on the website. Fine if you have access to the internet.
We will not let this drop and WILL be taking them to court and reporting to OFT.
Have used them before but again they did not read the terms and conditions over the phone.
They will not return calls and continually change their story.
Plus we rang the resort and they had not even booked us into the place"!!!
Given 1 star because they have a telephone
I had an awful time in Varadero (Iberostar) booked with the holiday place. They have done nothing to compensate this despite my bitter complaints.Susan, Ireland
We booked with this company for a 13 night two centre holiday in Cuba. The website is easy to use and very accurate on information, pricing and availability(unlike many others who advertise packages which do not exist, or use guide prices 25% below the real ones!). Booking was so easy, it took about five minutes on the phone, and we were offered advice on alternative hotels available in Havana (and no, not for more money). All the paperwork turned up on time, tickets were couriered (we had a phone call to arrange a delivery time and date, how's that for peace of mind!)Value for money seemed to be really good, although we knew that this was in part due to flights with Cubana. Despite some pretty poor reviews, Cubana was actually OK, pretty much on time, reasonable food, drinks and service. Not Virgin Atlantic standard, but not their money either. It was only when we got to our resort, Paradisus Rio de Oro at Guardalavaca, that we began to really understand what we had let ourselves in for. It was FANTASTIC! Everything detailed on the site really is included and easily available.
The only down side to our experience was damaged luggage on the transfer flight to Havana. Not holding out much hope, I emailed the Holiday Place with claim details. Despite a refusal from Cubana, The Holiday Place actually settled my claim themselves. How good is that?
In my experience these people really do go the extra mile on quality, customer service and unusually, manage to do this and still offer genuine value for money. I recommend them without reservation.
