Intrepid Travel

Intrepid Travel is an Australian company based in Melbourne who specialise in adventure travel. The company was originally formed in 1989 when friends Darrell Wade and Geoff Manchester decided after travelling in overland through Africa to create a company which helped people get off the beaten track, interact with local people and experience local culture. I travelled with Intrepid to the Galapagos Islands. I would advise no-one to ever consider travelling with Intrepid after our experience; not simply because we were involved in a shocking accident that I will detail below but because Intrepid's response was and still is appalling. Essentially what happened was that the boat we were travelling in, the Spondylus charted from Kemperry Tours, crashed in to rocks of a deserted island at full speed at 3 in the morning and rapidly began to sink. For me, the highlight of travelling is to learn about different cultures, religions and and experience new things. This is yet another tour company. Intrepid travel mainly focus on travel within South America and Asia but have recently branched out to include Australia and New Zealand. I did a 21 day Essence of China Northbound tour with them that took me from Hong Kong to Beijing. Intrepid tries to take care of local communities and the environment. It does this by having local guides in each area - rather than relying on one main guide. This supports the local economy and ensures you get someone with specific knowledge on the area.
