Had a super trip to Sri Lanka with Kuoni in July 09. Booked the Ceylon tour. It was a great mix, Amazing historical places, Buddhist temples, seeing some of my favourite spices growing, wonderful plants at the botanics, visiting a tea plantation but best of all the elephants. First we saw them at close quarters,another morning we had a 2 hour elephant ride round a lake. Ieven got to ride on the neck like a mahout ( long trousers advisable as the hair is quite wiry) and feed her with bananas!. That was an optional extra but only £23. Another day we visited wild elephants in a reserve. We saw lots some at very close quarters.
The hotels were very good I didn't even need my own beach towels. The food was super, do try hoppers and fantastic fruit as well as the obvious curry although there was also lots of other choices, puddings wonderful.
Our guide was superb he was awarded the president,s medal for services to tourism while we were there ( we read it in the local english language newspaper.
