In my honest opinion, judging by every travel agent ive ever booked a holiday from - Lunn Poly is the best by miles! At Lunn Poly, you can either exchange cash into various currencies, look at holiday brochures or book your holiday! When i went to book my holiday with my boyfriend a little while ago, we were asked to sit at a table and one of the staff would be with us as soon as possible. Well, we were only waiting a matter of a couple of seconds when this very friendly lady came up to us and introduced herself. Next she asked if we would like tea or coffee! I havent been to any travel agents before that ask if you'd like a hot drink. So my boyfriend and i started to feel very comfortable in there! I looked around the room - there weren't any conflicks going on - everyone whether it be the customers or the staff looked very happy. I didnt spot one misberable face! The lady talked us through certain options about holidays - she asked us loads of questions so she could find the right holiday for us. Then we needed to find out about car parking so she explained how to get cheaper car parking at airports, which was very helpful! After that, we went to change our pound sterling into euros (we are going to spain), the lady working behind the till always wore a big smile and she helped us very much with our queries and changing our money over! In my opinion, the staff at Lunn Poly are alot more friendlier and helpful than any other travel agent i have been to (Thomas Cook, Co-Op, Holiday Hypermarket to name a few), as they dont rush you quickly, they clearly explain in detail everything you need to know and they always answer your questions very politely. If you need help with anything, e.g. questions about brochures or anything or if you are standing looking for a certain brochure they will always come over and ask you if you need any help! So if it's very friendly, polite, comfortable, welcoming services you're after to make the booking
more worthwhile - then Lunn Poly is the no.1 place to go! also they charge less commission rates to other travel agents ive been to!
Iam slightly disappointed with Lunn Poly.In October last year I booked a holiday for me and my husband to Tenerife. We were to go there in March this year. The staff there were really friendly and one of the staff found me a good offer. It was for the Ocean Palace apartments Las Americas. This is a four star complex which is new and situated on the outskirts of Las Americas. The rooms are an all suite, just a posh word for a studio apartment. The price that she told me was £494.oo for both of us, that included the cost of the rooms and the flights, holiday insurance and transport to the airport. I queried the free insurance and free transport as they generally only give one free not both. Yes she said insurance and transport is free. Well I went back to work high as a kite, I don't normally get such a bargain. Over the weeks I paid a bit off the balance every time I had some spare money. The documents came through and I noticed the certificate for the insurance. I just put it away in my drawer until the time came. Then I decided to check on the internet for a car to hire whilst we were there. I decided on Carjet.com as I had used them before. There was a part to the ordering of the car hire that wanted to know my flight details. So out came the documents which I had carefully stowed away. I then noticed that I had in fact been charged for insurance, I hadn't noticed it before as I had trusted their word and not really looked at the confirmation. I double checked it and yes I was right, I was very annoyed as I had mentioned it various times in the conversation that we don't usually get insurance and transport free. Oh yes definitely was the advisors reply. Normally I wouldn't just have put the paperwork away, but for some silly reason, this time I did. What they had sneakily done was put on Gold insurance which I didn't know about and that came
to £87.98, then they deducted £34.00 saying we had half price insurance. I still had been charged £54.00 ish. I would never even pay that knowingly as I never take out travel agents insurance I get it from Boots or lately off the internet. I was furious, so I went into the branch where I bought the holiday from and had a word with the assistant manager, she was polite but said I had all the documents and signed the document, I had no leg to stand on. The cooling off period was 7 days after booking apparently. I felt misled and will always question things next time. To make matters worse my husband took his bicycle abroad and we had to pay £30 to transport the bike in the free taxi, so not only is the insurance not free but now the taxi becomes chargeable. It had also cost £45 to put the bike on the plane. I would advise people booking a holiday to always check what they are paying for. I wrote to Lunn Poly head office asking them to waiver the Taxi fee for the bike. This was the Outcome, Lunn Poly rang my husband at home and said it was too late to have a refund of the insurance as we had bypassed the cooling off period. Also we still had to pay for the bike to go on the taxi. They weren't very polite, in fact they were quite rude. Next time, I will avoid them. I now get free travel insurance from where I work.
Today, I should have been in Las Vegas, pushing the balance on my flexible friend to the absolute limit, instead I am basking in the glorious cold sunshine of South Wales. Due to events on 11th September and my already neurotic fear of flying, my present of a fleeting visit to San Fransisco and Vegas to visit some old school friends, for my partner to celebrate his initial successful treatment of skin cancer is once again a distant dream, but my yearning for a holiday SOON becomes for me something like an obsession, one of my staff booking a week in Gran Canaria just before Christmas has set me off again, so its off on the trail of the Holiday Brochures again (when I should be studying) and checking out what I can afford. Now when it comes to tour operators, I am loyal, preferring an arm of the Thomson brand above all others, when it comes to the Travel Agent I will go with whoever offers me the best deal, although these days prices generally tend to differ little, but the add-ons such as free insurance, free travel to the airport etc tend to be the incentives. Earlier in the week, I obtained a quote from my local Travel House (owned by Thomsons) for a holiday for myself, my daughter and her friend which was all written out for me and included free insurance. Upon entering another store of the same chain I was called a liar calmly told that no-one would have offered me free insurance and it was my job to prove it, needless to say I was not impressed, and steamed homeward to try and locate the written out details, although upon ringing the original store, I was told by a young gentleman that it was their right to withdraw any offer at any time, that was just tough luck, and as I was already getting £198 off the price of the holiday, what more did I want? So what has this got to do with Lunn Poly you may ask? Lunn Poly, a chain of UK wide Travel Agents also owned by Thomsons, they sell holidays from all major and smalle
r tour operators, flight only, ferry and UK holiday services. I decided to ring my local Lunn Poly store and establish what incentives they were offering - the difference, the young lady calmly advised me that no they were no longer offering free insurance on Winter Holidays, and that I could, if I so wished, obtain my insurance at either Boots or Post office as they were offering the best deals at that time, she then proceeded to tell me that at £25 for one weeks fully comprehensive European cover (??? my ears prick up - I am sure it used to run at around £40 for the week), their insurance did cover far more eventuallities than run of the mill insurances, but it was my decision. Whilst I was on the phone, the young lady checked the price of the holiday, read the hotel details in the Gazateer (always worth a nose as it tells you the bad things that the brochure doesn't), gave me the web-site details for checking myself and advised me of a new service offered by Thomsons on holidays departing more than 6 weeks in advance, whereby you can reserve the holiday for a period of 24 working hours (Mondays for Saturday bookings), giving you time to check things such as holiday entitlements at work, school holidays whatever. I was advised that all this could be done over the telephone should I require. A visit to my local Lunn Poly shop ensued today, and true to form the young lady remembered all the details and kindly reserved our holiday until I can confirm with my new boss that it is OK to take that particular week off - this will expire at the close of the business on the following day and costs a non-refundable £10 (which is an addition to the cost of the holiday but a damn side cheaper than losing your deposit if you can't have the time off work for some reason - available from Thomson Direct or Thomson Approved Agents). I will now confirm my holiday (if my new boss takes pity on me) on Monday and the fund will be taken of
f my credit card details in store without another visit. You can pay by Debit Card, Credit Card, Cheque or Cash and they will pop the receipts in the post. BEWARE: Lunn Poly charge for using a credit card is 2% of the balance being paid - waived I believe if you have a Thomsons Credit Card and are booking a Thomsons Holiday. AND THE BEST PART? The holiday had come down £21 in price from yesterdays price at the Travel House. ANOTHER LITTLE TIP If you are booking a particularly CHEAP holiday and travelling with a few kids, get the travel agent to check the price travelling with kids and then the same number of ADULTS, in our case, it was £81 cheaper to take three adults than two adults one child because of UNDER-OCCUPANCY supplements. THE STORE It was well laid out (Whitewalls, Swansea), and I found the staff amiable and helpful, managing to sell me products I didn't want because of their attitude and demeanour - they saved the day and won me over (Dont ever try travelling abroad WITHOUT travel Insurance). The shop had plenty of brochures and staff were more than happy to search over and over until I found what I wanted and, differently to the other travel agents have a consolidated price for each booking on screen rather than going through the whole booking process to check prices - I don't know if anyone else is like me, but I am not interested in individual prices for flight supplements and under-occupancy, I am just interested in the overall price and whether I can afford it. THE MORAL Its not WHAT you tell the customer, its HOW you tell them that can ensure whether you get and keep their business or not. If a customer is irate because she has been called a liar, don't just tell them tough - humour them, remember at the end of the day it is CUSTOMERS THAT PAY YOUR WAGES. Just in case anyone thinks this is a one-off, Last year I booked with Lunn Poly, Morriston for a tr
ip to Fuerteventura a year before we were due to travel and it was cancelled 6 days before with no compensation, the staff in the shop spent around three hours with us telephoning Thomsons and finding us an alternative holiday which just happened to be with JMC. So, providing I can have the time off work, watch this space for the Lanazarote ops - and if anyone has ever stayed in the Sol Lanzarote I would be interested to know about it. I'm due to go on holiday this friday,(thank god!!) and it was booked through Lunn Poly in Edinburh's Hannover street. On one busy april saturday my best friend and i were trundling on our way to miss selfridge when suddenly it became a good idea to pick up some holiday brochures . Once inside the shop a lovely warm atmosphere compared to the cold wet one that was outside along with the pictures of tropical beaches and one woman saying oh that is such a good deal, we decided to ask the lovely lisa to check the system, telling her of course we were just looking and had no money to book. Browsing through she found us a great deal for two weeks half board in Kavos, and after she looked in the gazetteer we realised it was a bargain. One problem the small sum of money in our pockets but no need to worry, lisa arranged a low deposit for us, only £25 each, so it was goodbye to miss selfride!! We also got free insurance for a year which wasn't as good as we expected as we had to pay a excess waiver. Most places wouldn't have taken us seriously as we were only 18 and yes we do look young!! But lisa took her time and spoke to us like we were adults the service was excellent. so good infact that I went back two weeks ago and booked a holiday for my boyfriend and i to the costa del sol next year.
I have only booked a holiday through Lunnpoly once and that was last year when I went to Greece for my 21st. There is no doubt that why people go back to the holiday shops due to their knowledge and professioanlism. Personally I did not like the travel shop due to the length of time that I had to wait to see a sales consultant (or whatever they are called) in the Arnold branch that is situated in Nottingham. This is because it is a small branch with only four Sales Consulatants. Although once you are being dealt with, they are very professional people as a lot of the time, they call you by your first name (if you have already booked with them) beofre you even sit down. It is like they know that you are comming into the agency. If you ask about anywhere, someone always know alot of detail about everywhere in which you are interested in, and if they did not, then another member of staff would say something. The attention that you get is brillient as they will sit down with you and talk to you about any problems that you may have. They also do look for the cheapest option that there is available at the time, but then they do give you an option on who there is to travel with. I decided to fly with Britania Airways which is part of Thomson Travel Group (which also owns Lunnpoly). (Please refer to article on Brittania Airways that I wrote on the 20/06/2001.) The holiday then was not the best of holidays. The cooker was not very good which took about 30 mins to warm up and about an hour to cool down, the floor got very slippy, and the rep was crap at his job, but was a good laugh when out around the pubs. The rep therefore was late in the mornings for excursions, or he forgot to tell us that it was canceled. I did not expect a lot from the actual apartments anyway due to it being Greece and I was pre warned that they live in very basic appartments, so I was not supprised in what I stayed in (now I am going off Lunnpoly subj
ect). The appartment was exactly like it was in the brouchure and was very to the point in how it was situated. The knowledge of Kardemina, Kos was very detail by the sales consultant as well. I would go again, but not through Lunnpoly. However, after waiting a long time to be dealt with, and then being seeing to by the sales person, I was looking around. The shop itself was very tidy, with only new brouchures on the shelves, and there was no litter on the floor. The other thing that I noticed was that when a customer had been finshed being dealt with, the member of staff always opened the door thanking them for comming and their custom. At all times, there was a very high professionalism about the company. If there was a queue developing in the shop, they always acknowledged you, so you knew that they had noticed people building up. This queue was not particulally the sales persons fault as the computer system that they use is very slow, but then when it came to photo-copying something, they had to go to the next shop along (a stationers) due to the shop not having a photocopier which I was supprised about. They however said that it was because they were a small agency and therefore was not necessary to need one. Overal, the quality of service was second to none, but I am a type of person that does not like to wait long. I only went to Lunnpoly as I was a shareholder of Thomson Travel Group. I personally tend to use Ilkeston Co-op Travel.
Every August Little Treasure and I pack up our bucket and spade and head off for a week in Wales. Every May I persue the bargain's on teletext you know the ones the go now for £99 types and every year I look at my bank balance and think never mind may be next year!! Unfortunately due to someone booking that August week off before me at work our annual holiday was going to end up as a weekend in Wales!! So as I do every year I looked at the teletext bargains and even dabbled with some of the online booking agency. Teletext, did give me some ideas, Greece for around about £129 seemed to be the order of the day. I rang two companies giving them a two week departure period and the results were actually very poor!! I wanted self catering accomadation ( basically I want a fridge to chill the beer and Little Treasures juice!!, reasonable flight times and above all a cheapo holiday. What I got was a very mixed bag, one holiday did offer Room only accomadation with a day flight from Manchester ( my local aiport) but the return was at the dead of night and to Gatwick!! We then had a holiday that retailed at £129 but extra's on top ie tickets on departure, booking fee, transfers to resort and insurance made it closer to £209 in reality. I was then offered a Club 18 to 30 holiday but given the fact I'm too old and Little Treasure is only 3 I declined that!! None of the holidays that were offered could give me a named resort let alone accomadation. Given the fact I was travelling with a 3 year old I really didn't want to end up in a resort that sleeps during the day and party's all night!! I'm sure Little Treasure would have loved it but I need my sleep after a hard day on the beach!! Online I did find some fairly reasonable holidays ,a good site is WWW.Bargainholidays.com. This site does tend to give you the low down on every thing ie those all important flight times!! Other sites were willing to give me the
briefiest of details but important detail like flight times were missing! When I attempted to email one company I was given the corporate email in reply asking me to ring them!!! In the end I gave up as I really didn't want to run my phone bill up any further!! Whilest in town a holiday to Rhodes for £99 caught my eye in Lunn Poly's window. On further investigation it turned out to be the same Club 18 to 30 holiday I'd been offered but at about £20 cheaper on the basic price!! The assistant then looked for other holidays departing on that date and came up with an absolute bargain, for the basic price of £109 it even gave me named accomadation! Then the downside came the return flight left Rhodes at 5am! The thought of being homeless for nearly 24 hours really didn't appeal! My dream of an Aeroplane holiday ( Little Treasure's words!!)appeared to be over till the assistant checked other flights. Suddenly a day flight appeared on the screen and the return was a day flight as well back to the same airport!! I waited for the assistant to tell me the price thinking it would be loads more expensive but no the basic price was still the same! With the extra's included this holiday works out at just over £156 per person. This includes tickets on departure transfers to the resort and travel insurance. When I got home I actually calculated the cost of this holiday if we had booked it as a normal booking, it worked over £575 per person for the week!!! This same holiday if booked throw one of the online sites with every thing included would have actually been £25 dearer! Basically bargains can be had but I wouldn't give up on the High St travel agents just yet. The face to face service I got was second to none they even rang the Greek Embassy in London for me to make sure my passport would be ok as it expires in August and some countries like you to have at least 6 months on your passport from th
e day you travel. To be honest if I ever want a late booking again I know where I'll be heading again Now I really must run I've got packing to do I've a holiday to go on next week!!
My holiday this year was a late deal that I booked by telephone after seeing a deal on the Lunn Poly website. I wanted a week in Crete and I got it for £250 return. I got my tickets from the desk at the Airport and I found out my holiday resort in Crete. Prior to my landing in Crete I knew I was in a 2 star B&B. I must admit that the uncertainity of not knowing the location in Crete was a downfall but to my delight we were placed in The Golden Bay hotel in Kalo Chorio. This hotel is not in UK brochures and is reserved for late deals or folks who ask. The hotel had a pool. Rooms had a satelite TV and a fridge, not bad for 2 star. For those who like more along the road was the Hotel Elpida which seemed to have a good reputation. By the way Kala Horio has 3 Golden Beaches that stretch some distance. These are some of a few Golden sandy beaches in Crete, most are full of Pebbles. If you enjoy quite resorts away from the clubbing scene this is ideal.
I was looking to book two flights to USA a couple of months ago. I rang numerous agencies, gave the details and was told to wait for their call back, and wait and wait. I would still be waiting now. On-line I tried as well and did get some quotes which I thought were very expensive, but while I was in town one day I thought I would try Lunn Poly and what very helpful staff. The assistant gave me three different variations and routes with big differences in price, but it gave me the option of choice. I booked my flights with no trouble and was just rang this morning to say I can pick them up anytime convenient to me. Very helpful staff and was interested in where I was going to, and didn’t mind looking for a cheaper option for me. Definitely try this travel agency again.
My family booked our holiday to the USA through Lunn Polly almost three years ago, and it was an excellent experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and we got a great deal on the holiday. We visited the shop several times to check and alter arrangements, and it was always done with the minimum of fuss. The shop was well laid out, with plenty of brochures covering all destinations. Lunn Polly is very well established, and is one of the UKs leading travel agents, and I for one would definately recommend it to anybody.
After scanning teletext and the internet and making a few phone calls I wasnt really getting anywhere with my holiday bargain hunting so I decided to pay Lunn Poly a vist. I am so glad I did. The assistant was so helpful and although our top price was really low( basically we wanted the impossible) she didnt hurry us and went through every possibility with us. We eventually settled on a famly holiday Half board to Ibiza for a week for just over a grand not bad t all for the summer hols. Anyway the message being that our local Lunn Poly was absolutely FIRST CLASS on their customer service and as a result we are off to Ibiza very shortly. This kind of customer care is rare these daysn and I have to say it makes all the difference. The assistant even gave us prices on the coach to London helping compare the best prices. One of the best things was that although our budget was so low we were trated like first class customers and it made the whole experience so much more enjoyable. So top marks to Lunn poly for excellent value and customer care.
lunn polly need to get their act together. The service they provide is quite good. Their main problem is their shop layout, their staff look like airline crew and their offices look like airport check in desks. I assume i am not the only person put off by bland red and white offices. they need to seriously rethink their strategies on customer attraction, colours, plants coffee machine etc. I dont like to say it but they are losing a lot of business through not doing any market research and keeping up to date with todays holiday market.
Believe it or not, I have been struggling to find a suitable package holiday, for two adults and two children for summer 2001. (Something that doesn't need the earning capacity of Posh & Becks anyhow)! After trying several agents and having their "own brand" brochures rammed down my throat, I decided to try Lunn Poly. The staff were very knowledgable and extremely helpful. (Something quite unique in the British Service Industry I find)! I spoke to several of the staff about various destinations they, and myself had visited. Between us, we managed to eliminate about two thirds of the world and then concentrated on the rest. Even though the office was busy at the time, I did not feel rushed or pressurizsd at all. Once a destination had been decided on, they did their utmost to find me the best deal. A free child place was found to my delight, and we don't have to fly in the depth of the night, as had been previously suggested. Thanks Lunn Poly, - I'll send you a postcard!
I was looking to book a late deal abroad wasnt really fussed where to go , Algarves,Spain anywhere would of done, so i flicked through ceefax late deals saw some good prices deals under lunn polly, phoned lunn polly, saying i had seen holidays advertisd for Greece late deals for week we want at £129 pp, i was really shocked after giving them details that for a family of 5 they were quoting me prices nearer £1500 self catering for a week , and that the £129 pp was for 18-30,s only as is all their late deals.Yet it doesnt say that on the ceefax advert neither does it say that on their internet web site I feel they are just printing these cheap prices to get you to phone them up, Looking in their brochures we found the late deals prices were literally the same prices as brochures ,so wasnt saving anything at all really,Needless to say i got a better deal elsewhere .
I have just booked my third holiday in 3 years with lunn Poly. There are several reasons why I chose them. I travelled to Rhodes in 1999 with them, I am off to Florida this year and next year I return to Rhodes. I booked woth Lunn Poly because their prices were constantly the cheapest, for the same exact package. Theire level of customer care was outstanding, they were always in touch informing me of details and checking minor things, the agent i spoke to was very helpful each time, helping us book without ever pressuring us. We were given all the information we needed, and they were helpful right up to departure. The first holiday was excellent too, I really enjoyed it. If youre booking a holiday I suggest Lunn Poly, they were terrific and I will (and indeed did) return there again.
This is a good firm to book your holiday with. They say they will beat any price which is good. We booked our summer holiday with them and could pay how and when we liked so that we didn't have to find the money all at once. When the money remaining balance was due and we could not pay it till the Saturday they did not mind a phonecall delaying it a few days where other firms would have cancelled it.
