Advantages: cheap holiday
Disadvantages: tell untruths
Iam slightly disappointed with Lunn Poly.In October last year I booked a holiday for me and my husband to Tenerife. We were to go there in March this year. The staff there were really friendly and one of the staff found me a good offer. It was for the Ocean Palace apartments Las Americas. This is a four star complex which is new and situated on the outskirts of Las Americas. The rooms are an all suite, just a posh word for a studio apartment. The price that she told me was £494.oo for both of us, that included the cost of the rooms and the flights, holiday insurance and transport to the airport. I queried the free insurance and free transport as they generally only give one free not both. Yes she said insurance and transport is free. Well I went back to work high as a kite, I don't normally get such a bargain. Over the weeks I paid a bit off the balance every time I had some spare money. The documents came through and I noticed the certificate for the insurance. I just put it away in my drawer until the time came. Then I decided to check on the internet for a car to hire whilst we were there. I decided on Carjet.com as I had used them before. There was a part to the ordering of the car hire that wanted to know my flight details. So out came the documents which I had carefully stowed away. I then noticed that I had in fact been charged for insurance, I hadn't noticed it before as I had trusted their word and not really looked at the confirmation. I double checked it and yes I was right, I was very annoyed as I had mentioned it various times in the conversation that we don't usually get insurance and transport free. Oh yes definitely was the advisors reply. Normally I wouldn't just have put the paperwork away, but for some silly reason, this time I did. What they had sneakily done was put on Gold insurance which I didn't know about and that came
to £87.98, then they deducted £34.00 saying we had half price insurance. I still had been charged £54.00 ish. I would never even pay that knowingly as I never take out travel agents insurance I get it from Boots or lately off the internet. I was furious, so I went into the branch where I bought the holiday from and had a word with the assistant manager, she was polite but said I had all the documents and signed the document, I had no leg to stand on. The cooling off period was 7 days after booking apparently. I felt misled and will always question things next time. To make matters worse my husband took his bicycle abroad and we had to pay £30 to transport the bike in the free taxi, so not only is the insurance not free but now the taxi becomes chargeable. It had also cost £45 to put the bike on the plane. I would advise people booking a holiday to always check what they are paying for. I wrote to Lunn Poly head office asking them to waiver the Taxi fee for the bike. This was the Outcome, Lunn Poly rang my husband at home and said it was too late to have a refund of the insurance as we had bypassed the cooling off period. Also we still had to pay for the bike to go on the taxi. They weren't very polite, in fact they were quite rude. Next time, I will avoid them. I now get free travel insurance from where I work.

- 10/12/01 You have to watch these travel agents! Never used Lunn Poly, but a small independent firm tried to rip us off by not giving us all the info. I always get my travel insurance now thro' the Internet. Hope you had a nice birthday (I'm a bit late with my wishes) Janna |
