      Don't travel with them

Just returned from a short trip to Paris to see in the New Year with Newmarket holidays. We live in Swindon but we're told by Newmarket that the coach wasn't, going anywhere near so we would initially have to travel to Carmarthen in order to sit with our friends on the coach. This would have required a round trip of over 6 hours by car and an overnight hotel stay. When the itinerary arrived about one week before our trip we discovered that we could catch the coach in Bridgend services, so quickly altered our arrangements to catch the coach there ( still a round trip of nearly 200 miles). We boarded the coach and after a couple of hours driving went past Swindon ( a five minute detour at most to pick us up from our home town ). To rub salt into the wound we then stopped in Reading for over 40 minutes to change drivers which was not on the itinerary at all!!! We could have driven to Reading and left our car there. Anyway we completed our holiday and then had to go past Swindon on the return journey at 11.00 at night get to Bridgend at 1.15 and then drive back to Swindon to arrive at approx 3.00 am !!! Needless to say we will never use Newmarket again, or recommend them to anyone.

      Unlikely book with them again

Just returned from Edinburgh weekend trip Newmarket Coach 5 . Although we enjoyed Edinburgh very much the much the itinerary was an absolute shambles. We were picked up at 5.30 am and arrived in Edinburgh at 13.10 we were told on the way there that there were 2 different tours on our coach as some people had booked to go to the theatre in the evening. As a consequence of that we were told to meet back at the coach at 21.15 to depart at 21.30 to collect the theatre goers at 22.00 !! We did not arrive at out hotel in Livingstone until 23.00 - absolutely appalling service, there were elderly people on the coach, we did not book to go to the theatre so why weren't we taken back o the hotel at a reasonable time ?? To add insult to injury we were then told that there had been a change to the breakfast and we would now be on the first sitting at 8.15 am. Very unhappy people on the coach, several people on the coach stated that they would be complaining to Newmarket Holidays. Be warned !! You will have to spend 8 hours in the city make sure you have suitable clothes and shoes on and if you are booked to go to the theatre you will have to take your shopping bags with you !! Totally uncalled for, one lady had to take her very elderly mother back to the hotel on the train and get a taxi to the hotel. Go on the train and book your own accommodation everything is very central.

Myself and some family members have just returned from spending a weekend on the above tour. The tour itself was most enjoyable and relaxing. The trip to Buckingham palace was excellent, the whole trip was so enjoyable and something that we'll never forget, we couldn't fault the tour at all. John, the rep, was so caring and he kept us up to speed with information and details and David, the driver, was also excellent. These two people added to the fantastic trip and we would like to thank them for making the trip such a memorable one. I shall definitely book with Newmarket Holidays in the future. Many Thanks,Sarah Jones, Llinos Jones & Rose Evans

Avoid this operator like the plague

I recently had a week's holiday at the Hotel Miramar in Nazare, Portugal. The hotel in itself is very pleasant with a lovely view over the beach and town of Nazare. However, the evening meals included in the package were truly horrible and were not as described in the literature. There was a fish stew one evening that my cat would have refused to eat. Pork ribs that were as tough as old boots, and chicken that was all salt and bones. The lasagne on offer one evening was runny and completely lacking in seasoning. The salad offerings were fresh and good at the start of the week, but as the week went on it became obvious that the salad was being refrigerated and trotted out night after night. If that was not enough, there was the constant noise of hammering and drilling which made it impossible to sit outside by the pool, and reduced me to going to my room and closing the windows. When I asked the rep for a complaints form, she said "you are the first to complain" - which I knew was untrue as other guests had already complained. She also wasted considerable amounts of time during trips with unnecessary stops where I suspect she was obtaining a percentage from the businesses where we had coffee, ice creams etc. The reply I got to my complaint form and letter of complaint was dismissive both of me and my complaints. If I were you I would avoid booking with this operator.

I booked a river cruise with Newmarket Holidays several months ago. I recently checked the price of the same holiday and found it was £140 cheaper. I asked Newmarket Holidays about this and their response was that they could charge what they want so tough! Never again will I book early with them, come to think of it I'll never book again with them at all.

      Disadvantages

      Beware using Newmarket Holidays

My wife and I have just returned from holidaying in Italy as participants in the organised tour arranged by your Company and entitled "Tuscan Treasures" . Let me state quite categorically here and now that whilst the Italian countryside and hotel where we were based, (the Cristallo in Chianciano Terme), were both delightful, the organisation by Newmarket Holidays left much to be admired. In this respect if we were to mark their report card at the end of our holiday our overall conclusion would have to be "tried at times but could really do better". In effect we experienced a holiday resembling somewhat of a "curates egg" in that there were several good points but which were regrettably marred by a sloppy and at times haphazard organisation. Perhaps the following points may help to illustrate the lack of professional care that was missing during our week long vacation. 1. Upon arrival at Pisa airport we were briefly met by a Newmarket representative but quickly handed over to a non-English speaking coach driver for the journey to our hotel. 2. The journey to our hotel took 3 hours (not 2 hours as shown in our holiday papers!) but upon arrival no Newmarket representation was present. We were simply handed over to the hotel staff who, to their credit, were able to offer us assistance and an evening meal. 3. Perusal of a clumsy hand-written information sheet on a notice board adjacent to the hotel reception revealed that the proposed itinerary for our week's activities had been changed. Not in itself a major catastrophe but this meant that instead of a day of rest on the Sunday, guests who had arrived quite late on the Saturday night (10-11 pm) after a long journey would have to rise early the next day to embark upon another 2-3 hour trip to Sienna! 4. On that Sunday morning two Newmarket representatives finally appeared but only after guests had been kept waiting long after the scheduled departure time and therefore being unable to glean any salient information as to what was happening. We were, unhappily, to encounter other late arrivals by the Newmarket representatives during our week's activities both at initial departure and return times! 5. We were eventually joined by the said Newmarket representatives - Stephen Habegger and Chiara. Stephen Harbeggar we found to be a good clear speaker and both quite interesting and informative whilst on the coach. Chiara on the other hand spoke halting and laboured English and at times seemed to be totally incomprehensible! The luck of the draw determined whether we had a representative who could be pleasant to listen to or one which quickly turned the trips into a nightmare! 6. During our daily trips we observed that no actual record was maintained of who was on the bus or more pertinently who had actually paid! At times this proved to be something of a farce in that several wrong counts were often made resulting (for example) in the purchase of un-necessary metro tickets whilst we were in Perugia! More importantly one felt that should we be late returning to the coach that it would have left without us - no-one having noticed that we were absent! 7. At both our trip to Sienna and Florence we were faced with what we can only describe as a tiresome "30 minute route march" both upon arrival and departure. Given that many in our party were quite elderly and not therefore so fleet of foot this cast a real damper upon the day. Yet conversations with other parties revealed that they had been offered access to a shuttle bus service - alas we were not so fortunate and encountered heavy rain at Sienna and high heat at Florence - neither conditions conducive to such long treks! 8. On occasions we were visited in the evening by Stephen Harbeggar, but having to spread himself too thinly in attending to 3 hotels in the vicinity such visits were somewhat sporadic and not a great deal of information communicated. In this respect it was rather late in the week that such things as hotel facilities (swimming pool, sun terrace) existed or that copies of a map of the immediate area were available. Again the lack of a professional "meet and greet" session resulted in little or no useful information being gained. In fact guests only gleaned such information by word of mouth from other guests. 9. Upon our final departure we again had no Newmarket representatives present and to compound this omission the Pisa airport was also devoid of such personnel. Given the chaos and uncertainty surrounding check-in this was perhaps simply symptomatic of the laisser-faire attitude that we had experienced from Newmarket Holidays all week! One has to say that the above points simply illustrate the poor role taken by Newmarket Holidays. The hotel staff on the other hand were both professional and customer friendly and were a joy to meet. Perhaps they could teach Newmarket staff a thing or two!

Just returned from a seven night holiday with Newmarket Travel, was a little nervous before hand after reading some of the reviews. But I can honestly say that I had a wonder stay. The first hotel we stayed in Hotel Geier in Torbole was nice with a lovely lake view but at meal times you felt a little in the way as though they didnt want you there. The second part of the holiday was in Gotzens Hotel Edwelweiss this was a lovely hotel with nice food.Terry the rep was brilliant nothing was too much trouble. The trips were all really organised well we really enjoyed them.

      Load of rubbish

What a shambles. Coach was comfortable however pick-ups were ad-hoc and no where near to motorway connections hence a lot of time was lost "Touring the countryside". We didn't sign up for a magical mystery tour but we certainly got one between Sheffield & Donnington via Ilkeston & Chesterfield (in each direction). Driver placed total reliance on sat nav which caused an awkward reverse from a car park and a trip around the industrial area of Leeds when following the road signs would have been easier. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Slough which provided great accommodation but the restaurant was a rip off. Burger & Chips for two with a drink each cost just under £32.00. There were no other shops or restaurants nearby. The journey between London & Leeds took 7 hours due to convoluted drop offs. Never again! Be warned they think little about customer care but are quick to take your cash.

      Never again

Went on a short weekend break with Newmarket travel to Haworth 1940s weekend. A coach holiday from hell! Left Bristol at 6am, arrived York at 2.10pm which only left just under 3 hours to explore before back on the coach for our Hotel in Bradford where we were to stay for 2 nights. This journey took nearly 2 hours arriving at 6.50pm! Seemed a very long time since 6am. Became quite attached to the coach, not. The point of this review is there were too many 'passenger pick-ups' and on one occasion only 2 people were picked up. Every time there was a pick up it was at least a 20 minute journey from the motorway, and then obviously a further 20 minute journey to get back to motorway to continue the journey. Unfortunately the driver and tour guide had no idea where they (we) were going. Thank goodness for a front seat passenger who seemed to know where we were supposed to be going. The hotel Holiday Inn Express, Bradford was reasonably ok, but the food was not so ok. Having 2 choices each night for main course which we had to choose whilst on the coach even before we arrived! The good part was the Haworth 1940s day, absolutely fantastic and would recommend, but not travelling with Newmarket unless they change their route. Unfortunately you won't know the route until 8 days before you are due to travel. Now it was time to reverse the journey with everyone feeling very apprehensive about the journey home. Out of kindness of the 2 people who were due to be dropped off meaning another 40 minute there and back journey, they kindly offered to be dropped off at motorway services, whereby we could stop for 30 minutes, we had been travelling for nearly 4 hours, saving this 40 minutes off the journey. After speaking with fellow trippers Newmarket Travel was definitely off future trips, mainly because of too many pick ups. Maybe if he driver and tour guide had an idea of where they were going it would have helped enormously and instilled a bit of confidence in the passengers. At one point the driver had exceeded his driving hours and had no idea where to stop! Sorry Newmarket, this was our first and last trip with you.

Please be carful when you choose your holiday

Just returned from the Amsterdam Bulb Fields Cruise. When we rang up to book told the holidays for the price advertised was sold out and would have to pay extra for a cabin upgrade. When on the boat talking to other passenger who had the same cabin as ours next door they had paid the lower price. The holiday was good in parts but do not believe all you read in their adverts. Like you will have time in Amsterdam. Arrived in Amsterdam at 1030hrs and then told (not before) that we could not board the boat until 1600hrs. Left to walk the streets of Amsterdam for 5 1/2 hrs. Food Good not great but good, service terrible. The night before we were due to leave we were told we had to be off the boat by 0800hrs and the coach would pick us up in Amsterdam at 1600hrs. Another 8hrs wandering the streets of Amsterdam and no where open until 1000hrs. Most of our party were pensioners some in their 80's. I leave it up to you to see if you want to take the trip, and I do not mean drugs.

Went on this trip over the Easter weekend 2012 to the Black Forest in Germany. What a great time. We had a fantastic rep called Roger who was hilarious and made everyone's holiday a fantastic one. He was so funny. Our coach driver, Dean, was also amazing. Also very funny and an excellent driver. We were all sad when the holiday was over.Hotels in both France and Germany were the usual basic, but fine type and the trips were brilliant. Well organised and the whole holiday was excellent value for money. This has been the best coach holiday I've been on and I would definitely go with Newmarket again.

      Amazing

I went on the Paris In Springtime coach trip. All the pick-ups ran smoothly on the way down, and we got to the tunnel on time. On the other side, we stopped maybe, 70 miles south of Calais, at a lovely service station. The coach was comfortable and the driver and tour manager were lovely. We were taken through Paris on a nice scenic route. A slight problem did occur when we could not get under a bridge, and xould not reverse back because of the rush hour traffic sticking right up our backside. Our tour manager got out and controlled the traffic and the driver performed a perfect 3- point turn. This was handled extremely well by all staff. It was also amusing for us to see some angry Frenchmen beeping at us. We got to our hotel, and were offered a special deal for restaurant, which we took, and it was lovely.(Mercure Meudon) The next day we went into Paris, and the bus tour was brilliant, and our tour manager (roger) did an amazing commentary. We then went round Paris on our own after being dropped off at Arc De Triomphe. We were later taken to the boat tour then Latin quarter, then home. The next day we were taken to Versailles. The homeward journey went as well as the outbound. Overall, a brilliant trip.

Only gave 1 star cos I cant give zero or less

I booked a "trip of a lifetime" for myself and my husband to America on the Golden West tour for 3/6/12. This holiday has been booked since May 2011. I received a letter this weekend to say that the holiday had been rearranged from Gatwick to Heathrow and the dates changed so departure was now Weds 30th May, not Sun 3rd June. If we could make this new date we were to contact Newmarket by Thurs 15th March (tomorrow) Obviously this sent us into a panic and we frantically started trying to rearrange our a/l. I was working a long shift on Monday (0730-2000, I am a midwife) so couldnt call til Tues morning. I called at 0940 and a rude operative said if I didnt want the new dates he would cancel! I stated that I did not want to cancel as I was rearranging a/l but would like a customer service advisor to call me back.......I waited all day yesterday with no call back and no reply to 3 emails. I called again today to be told "sorry you cant go 30th May now either as we have sold all the flights, your only choice is 23rd May or a refund of your deposit!!!! SO, after having had the holiday booked for over 9 months and calling before the cutoff date to accept the rearrangement, our holiday is now cancelled. We both caused a lot of upheavel at work and have now been left high and dry. DO NOT USE NEWMARKET HOLIDAYS, THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED
